Trump's election and Dissolution's end; the Tories' curtailment of privacy and Custom Made Now; Tory welfare cuts and Functionism generally. -- James Roberts
Side effect of torturing someone for a few million years: They're able to handle the pain of being big enough to punch a moon.
I have to say, I really like that speech at the end of the issue. Chance and the actions of others have led to him leading the revolution again, but he hasn't forgotten the mistakes he made last time. And given who was calling his comm at the end of the issue, I'd say the Functionist universe has hope for the future. That said, I do hope he finds a way to contact his crewmates sooner rather than later, given what Rodimus and Magnus currently think of him.
I kinda disagree with you on Megatron needing to contact the Lost Light crew. I think this ending is just fine and I kinda think doing anything more on it would be over egging the pudding. I'd be more than happy to leave the Functionalist universe on that note of hope, and a phone call from a very old friend.
I like this end for Megatron, and especially the significance of that phone call at the end. Redemption is always possible for anyone, but it is a never ending road not a destination. I also really like the art in this issue. I know a lot of people didn't, calling it too cartoony and too human, but for such a human story I think it fits. Megatron is no longer the cold unfeeling machine from the more mecha-style of art, he is now a person with empathy and able to feel those bonds of friendship.
Although, for all I love this ending, Terminus man. We need to have a word about informed consent, and why Megatron does not need a new Starscream. Although if we do return to the Functionalist universe, I'd like to see how Megatron dealt with its Starscream. Hopefully better. And also have T deal with the consequences of his little Deception. I'd be more than happy for us to never go back there again, though, because I don't think there needs to be anything more said.
Speaking of, I look forward to that Starscream/Megatron series of scans from a few years back. That was a fun series and I think there's at least one more issue of relevance in regards to their relationship that needs to be talked about...
I sort of switched from posting scans here to writing meta on Tumblr when I started getting more and more disillusioned with MTMTE... I felt like a hypocrite for posting scans of a series that I had grown to hate, and like a wet blanket for bitching about something that other posters dearly love (yeah, okay, I bitched here, but it was just in one entry out of six, and I actively refrained from saying anything in the other five. I'm trying, folks!)
If you like reading about analysis and dissection of the relationship between Starscream and Megatron, I could send you a PM with a link to the meta.
Yeah, I did like the analysis and I'd like to read more of it.
A shame you're not liking the series. It's always a shame when a series stops working for you, be it in comics or television or even movies. That literally just happened with me and Saga, so I know what that's like.
In all fairness, the end of the first issue had Megatron state that he deliberately hadn't informed Starscream that they'd be teleporting to Cybertron, as he wanted it to be a surprise ;)
I do appreciate your attempt to comfort me, my friend. Usually talking with you cheer me up :)
But here, frankly, I didn't mention that particular bit on purpose. Because one lone single only tiny off-hand line in 34 issues since June 2014 is damning with faint praise.
It'd be funny if down the road Megatron was attacked and someone noted, "unlike your dimension-hoping band, which left you behind, we noticed you haven't thrown a punch since you got here! You're big but you're no threat, now prepare to get your beating..."
That is Roller's telephone unit, the one he was trying to use last issue (or the issue prev, I can't recall which) to call Orion Pax on his personal frequency. Orion Pax is what Optimus' original name was. Megatron just got a call from this universe's Optimus.
