Groo: Friends and Foes #10 (2015)
Oct. 1st, 2017 06:16 pmDark Horse: "As Groo wanders through twelve issues, he encounters his old friend/foe, the mercenary commander Taranto, who’s plotting to claim the vast riches that shall come to the father of the lost girl, Kayli. The intrigue unfolds in this story by the award-winning team of Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier, with lettering by Stan Sakai and coloring by Tom Luth!
* This time, Taranto’s intentions really ARE pure . . . or are they?
* Yes! Seriously, they are.
* (No, they aren’t.)"

People are running from one side (Groo) to the other (Taranto's men). Suddenly one of them realizes that they maybe could hire Groo to defeat Taranto. Groo just can't remember if Taranto is a friend or a foe...

Eventually, Groo finds Taranto, who does not take long to convince the barbarian they are on the same side.

"My friend Taranto! I said something is wrong! I have no wine to accompany this tasty boar!"
While Taranto is fleeing, one of his pirates remembers something: that Groo is accompanying a little girl who is looking for her father (and, legend has it, has inherited a fine fortune). Everyone says they wish they were the lucky father, and Taranto reminds them of their place.

They fall for it, but then realize they've been tricked and capture her. Meanwhile, Groo has found Taranto.

Groo wakes up because he realized, in his dream, that Taranto was his enemy. And will pummel him... except that the dragons already did the job.
Once again, Groo and Kayli part ways, but we'll all know they'll meet again next issue.
I actually like Taranto. I think that he's a versatile character, being a stand-in for any robber and looter, and his confusing of Groo is always fun to see.
Next issue: the Minstrel!

And he goes on with a story of a cow, "no, perhaps it was a bat. And it was on its way somewhere... to do something or other... and then a big storm came up... or is it a monster? Anyway..."
"That is a terrible story. Also, you smell"
