"For me, it's Cyclops, full stop. One of my all-time favorite Marvel characters. He's my doppelganger here." - Mark Waid

I love young Scott. He’s the version of Scott I’ve always had in my head, free of decades of poor editorial decisions that started with X-Factor and only got worse from there.

I really wish Tyke hating who they told him Cyke turned into wasn't such a key character point.

Everytime I start building up a connection with the character they trot out that old chestnut and my goodwill just kinda vanishes. Doesn't help that Tyke only knows Xavier as a saint, just to add insult to injury.

Yep. I'm pretty much done with the character and stuff like this just reinforces it.

Fourthed. It's the primary reason I'm not reading this book.

It's deliberately trying to pit Cyclops fans against Cyclops and just... no? If I see a Cyclops I want to like them *because I like Cyclops*.

Fifthed. It's stuff like this that makes it hard for me to like any of the young x-men. It seems thier whole point is to say how much thier adult counterparts with no one calling out how they have only one side of the story and having no empathy for what thier adult selves haves gone through

Okay. Smol!Cyclops is now my favourite too :'-)

Though I do wish somebody finally explained to him the extensive extenuating circumstances that pushed adult!Cyclops to do the things he did.

Waid started it back when we 'knew' adultCyclops did something very horrible*. Then we found out the action were Emma killing a deathcloud in his name.

Making it about the Xavier things may at a glance sound better than Emma's deathcloud save, but kidCyclops already knew about the Xavier's death part when he joined adultClops and has plenty of time to talk about it with his older self himself so being hung up on *that* one is weird too.

And he doesnt even have the "At least I have Jean" part. This is Scott before he fell in love with Jean (it wasn't a Love at First Sight thing IIRC).

At least THIS Scott isnt the "maybe a sociopath" older Scott eventually became. Poor bastard.

While I loved the story, it did also remind my why Marvel Editorial's decision to make Cyclops the monster is so frustrating. He was an extremely complex person who had to make difficult decisions in situations where there weren't right choices. That's what him such a great character and it would be great if somoeone sat young Scott down and had that discussion with him.

Instead what we get is 'Cyclops grows to be a monster that only did horrible things while Saint Logan and Xavier disapprovingly shook their heads from afar.'

Poor Scott, stuck dealing with his future self doing stuff and no one giving him the details. At least he doesn't think he was Hitler to the Inhumans anymore. And yeah, someone needs to give him the details. At least here he's got friends that aren't directly connected to that mess.

Also, I love his reaction to flying.

Yea.

"Wait-a-second, your actual context makes me realize that the people who've been telling me he's horrible are *jerks* who have often done far worse, and I've been repeating this crap! Why did no one tell me before now?"

I think part of the problem is that none of his current friends knew Cyclops, all they have is some distant perspective and what Scott himself says.

Quite. yCyclops is being a one-person echo chamber who has... media reports to go on? And not talking to *anyone* who knew oCycs about it? He'd get better perspective from Logan if Logan were alive, but he *should* be hearing what's what from Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, or from one of the old crew he knows, Bobby.

Didn't Wolverine even come to terms with Cyclops not being responsible for killing Xavier because of the Phoenix?

I think so, pretty much everyone got tired of being mad over that. That's what they needed the 'vague did something horrible' timeskip for.

At least Scott didn't get the fake facial hair that would've make him look like his dad.

So, does that mean Scott always feels like that when he's flying?
I'mma go ahead and assume the answer's "yes".
Because it makes him, like 20% more adorable.

How can Tykclops be worried about killing Xavier, when Xavier is already dead?

I suppose the answer is that everyone knows Xavier will eventually come back, at which point Tykclops thinks he'll kill him. But if they're that genre savvy, then why do they think Xavier's next death will stick any more than the current one?

Worried as in "this is what I will eventually do".

There's still the potential threat of 'Young X-men return to the past, get mindwiped by past-Xavier for reasons, future proceeds as normal despite Young X-Men being a year older than they should. Past attempts to send the kids home have always gone weird, but it remains a possibility.
