He's right. The humor from Doreen's solo book doesn't arise from randomness, i.e. Daniel Way's Deadpool. It's entirely about Doreen herself and the situations that arise from her circumstances.

A "random" Squirrel Girl book would have every arc begin with Doreen blundering into a bizarre occurrence simply because she's there. Instead, Doreen's allowed to be a character. There's a difference.

I'd say there's some stuff that still feels somewhat random, but Doreen herself certainly isn't. She is a constant star, driving in one direction, and some of the humor comes from the fact she's like that even when, say, dealing with a nihilistic brain in a jar.

I don't even know why I looked up if Krask was a pre-existing character. This is a Ewing book. Of course he is. I didn't know he goes all the back to Thunderstrike.

What's a Senator doing working in the White House as part of the Executive Branch? It really jumped out at me as a rare misstep of Ewing's usually meticulous plotting. I'd have expected him to research how the government works in the US before delving into it in a story.
