I could never get into this story the way i wanted, as it basically hinges on Mar'i, a grown woman, going completely overboard over a childhood promise of the type of comforting reassurance that parents will naturally tell any child of her age.
It didn't make me like her or relate to her, it just made me think she was incredibly immature.
I can't get over how both Mar'i and Barda/Mister Miracle's kid jacked their costume designs from their parents. Way not to have any originality or willingness to go your own way in life you friggin squares.
Also, Mar'i apparently deciding to double down on the skimpiness of her mother's costume is... slightly disconcerting to me. That was kind of a messed of plot point in Watchmen if I recall. The original Silk Spectre dressing up her teenage daughter in her old Fuck Me costume.
Her father used to run around in a one piece bathing suit, with elf shoes, her mother wore a slingshot bikini...poor girl didn't have much of a choice.
Hey, Mar'i may have a genetic aversion towards pants and a plunging neckline even her mom would raise an eyebrow at, but the pirate sleeves are all her, baby!
He's wearing the equivalent of shorts and a T-shirt with running shoes.
You might reasonably think that's underdressed for a costumed vigilante, but it's hardly "half naked" in the salacious sense the term implies, especially given that half the kids you'll see on a summers day will be wearing about the same.
And Batman was fighting grown men wearing longjohns and a cape that apparently extended from anywhere between 6 to 30 feet depending on how extra he wants to be. Neither outfit was practical for it's purpose or provided adequate protection for combat.
Let's face it, practical clothing choices for vigilantes had long since left the building.
It's not a question of practicality for me, it's a question of why some people seem to be fine with a costume that showcases the nether region of a 8-10 year old boy?
