It's Nextwave. It has a very tenuous grasp of continuity, all things considered. It also had Monica flashing back to Captain America telling her to go make the boys a sandwich instead of going into a fight. So I wouldn't consider it reliable.
I always loved Monica's original costume, and power set. She was pretty awesome back then, and she's pretty awesome now. It's just a shame she went through a rough patch where no one appreciated her or knew what to do with her.
Given Monica's resemblance to Pam Grier and her last name being Rambeau, I once thought Pam Grier and Sylvester Stallone should play Monica's parents in the MCU. So, with Pam Grier and Sylvester Stallone as Monica's parents, that means Paula Patton should play Monica Rambeau in the MCU.
I'd still like to see Paula Patton as Monica Rambeau in the MCU. Maybe as a member of the Navy who might or might not get super-powers.
Frank Rambeau is a Black man...I like Sly, and i get the whole Rambeau/Rambo thing, but i think if Monica, and her parents ever showed up in the MCU, it would be important to show that she came from a Black nuclear family. Hollywood seems to think we were all raised by single parent mother's, or that we grew out of a cabbage patch or something.
Big fan of Monica Rambeau, her Captain Marvel identity (Oh, and and I LOVE that costume); Kickass lady, fascinating powers AND Avengers leader for a long time.
She deserved better than losing two different code names to the same white guy just because he was Mar-Vell's kid.
Man, I'd forgotten how good John Romita Sr.'s layouts were. It's the kind of old-school draftsmanship we didn't appreciate at the time. I mean, you can follow the story without any dialogue and it just flows so well from panel to panel. It leads the eye, it has a cinematic feel and carries you through the story. I particularly like how occasionally his work overflows the panel, such as when Monica's foot kicks out, giving it a three-dimensional feel.
Also, that picture of Monica in a bikini? That's a 'I'll be in my bunk' moment right there.
