This one comes from The Haunt of Fear #26.

The Old Witch introduces us to Martin Saunders, who is stuck in an unhappy relationship with his wife.

The narration explains how Martin and his wife are cut off from the rest of their friends and family, their house a "cave in the heart of the big city". It asks Martin, why doesn't he just leave her? Martin thinks of killing her, but realizes that is impossible. He thinks back to five years ago, and how he planned on killing her then...

Eva interrupts Martin from his thoughts, and tells him it's time to go to bed. Martin tells her to have pity on him, but Eva responds that they're married, and she never used to have a problem before...

Golden age comic book lettering will never not look weird.

This is a creepy story allright!

But one thing I could never understand is why the guy does not just turn himself in. "If I go to prison I'll have to live in a shithole, eat disgusting food and be subjected to unwanted sex!" Look at your life right now, dude.

Maybe, since she's already defying the laws of nature by moving around above ground and all despite her death, even going to prison might not be an escape from her.

"Darling! It's time for my conjugal visit!"

"Eva, we've been over this. It's not a conjugal 'visit' when you're waiting in my cell for me every night... somehow undetected by the guards or other prisoners..."

Even the infamous Arpaio Nutraloaf is probably a major step up from her cooking.

If I had to guess, he'd lose all the money if it was discovered he murdered her. (Although alicemacher's explanation is way more fun.)

Wasn't this the comic that the Tales from the Crypt episode "Til Death" was based on?
