X-Men Red Team line up announced.

The new team, with a new team leader, and a lot of old faces hsa been confirmed




And here is the team in all it's glory



Tom Taylor will be writing, and Mahmud Asrar on art, with covers by Tavis Charest

The team will consist of Namor, Nightcrawler, Wolverine (Laura Kinney), Gabby (Laura's sister and who will probably be getting a codename?), Gentle (The Wakandan mutant with vibranium tattoos we haven't seen in a VERY long time, but which one might assume was to create a bit of synergy with an upcoming movie), new character Trinary and one other female character who will be revealed as the first story arc progresses.

I find myself fairly ambivalent about this line up, was the world really clamouring for Jean Grey back when we already have one? (The came could be said about all the time displaced X-Men IMHO) Namor? Again? WHY?

On the flipside, Laura is a genuinely interesting character, Gentle had some potential IIRC and Kurt is always welcome.

That's a very eclectic mix of characters. I don't think any of them have meaningful connections to each other aside from Laura and Gabby.

Nezhno wouldn't be my first pick of to join a team out of his class of student, but I appreciate the effort.

And really anything that saves Kurt from X-Men Gold is okay in my book.

I can't believe there is at long last a team with a New X-Man.
That makes it the best X-team line up, so far. (that was not difficult)
X-23 was expected. Not sure what to think about Gabby. Like Molly Hayes, she may cross the line between fun, adorable character and annoying mascot.
Nightcrawler should pick his team. Gold or Red. Not both. Quit one team and let your spot to Hellion or Surge.
I'm glad that Namor too is getting a, ahem, "practical" costume. After all, that's the trend of current decade.

Now if there could be a plot twist at the end of first issue, and Jean gets replaced by Hope, that would be perfect.

Logan set the standard for appearing on multiple teams, Kurt at least has the advantage of teleportation explaining how he can be in both places at once.

Now you mention it, I can easily imagine Hope being the surprise new member, though I remain personally uninvested in the character.

I would be very surprised if they brought Hope back. She's a Jean Grey archetype, and Marvel already has three of those in circulation, the two Jeans and Rachel.

IDK the kids are a bit different and I'd rather have the OG Cyclops back over the new one. I'm just surprised it's took this long to bring back Jean given that she officially died all the way back in Morrison's run.

"Wolverine Clones" as in other antihero guys who will kill people? Agreed.

Actual clones? Laura is a fairly interesting character, and Gabby is interesting for being a "Feral" mutant who is actually pleasant (indeed: downright bubbly!), as opposed to the grim angst we usually get from anybody with a set of claws.

In the tweet linked to a little earlier in the comments, Tom Taylor refers to her as "Gabby Kinney", so they're likely going to make that her canon last name.

Ok, interesting lineup! Kinda surprised by Namor and all, but Laura and Gabby is great, Gentle is a surprising and pleasant return (though I do hope they can do more about his side-effects), and yea, not a bad team.


I will admit I have my fingers crossed that Surge would return for another of Gentle and Laura's generation, but ah well.

Namor on the X-men is really interesting. His personality is so easy to play off. I kind of though they missed much in the way of interaction opportunity last time. Except for some banter with Hope.

To be honest, I've never felt he worked with the X-Men. Yes, technically he's a mutant, but he's A) a sometimes reigning monarch of an entire Kingdom, and B) not someone who ever really chooses to interact with humans because he prefers being underwater even when NOT being a King, his connection to the X-Men's core concept of human/mutant relations always seems terribly forced.
