Creepily ill-fitting cover art aside the burning question I have here is when does this take place, and how old is present Emma Frost supposed to be? Because I saw a bunch of things that might say 50s 60s, mixed in with stuff that makes me think 70s 80s and even 90s.
The trouble with writing a backstory for a character who lives in an Eternal Now, I suppose. Although parts of it might just be down to it being a conservative and traditional private school.
It was at its worse with issue 5, with Emma Frost in her White Queen getup looking suspiciously like early-2000's Britney Spears posed in such a way you're almost certain to bestaring down her cleavage. Making matters worse for me it was literally the first I ever saw of her as it was her big picture in her section in the official Marvel Encyclopedia circa 2013 (if Spider-Man's section is anything to go by) and being a horny but very self-conscious 14-15 year old at the time I had the unfortunate experience of getting turned on whilst thinking "Does she actually look like that?" like I was invoking Frost herself.
On a side-note said image had the side-effect of installing my very autistic and once-impressionable brain with headcanon for a while that Emma is a dead ringer for Britney Spears, since it was before I remembered that I watched X-Men First Class.
The problem was that the covers did not match the material. The story of how a young teenager became the White Queen was and is potentially quite compelling, but the covers did a very poor job of attracting (say) female readers who might want to read about Emma. The contents, meanwhile, are not cheesecake.
