Well since the first movie seems to be more Thanos Quest than Infinity Gauntlet at least we'll be able to see the heroes fight a desperate battle to keep the gems out of Thanos's hands. They will have to tweak the actual Gauntlet story though not to make it Warlock and his rather unimportant pawns.
So everything is resolved, consequence free, and nothing of any real importance happened (and any time it did, it was undone). Hmm.
Just like Crusade, actually. ... and Marvel: The End, too, come to think of it.
How much of that is Starlin's desire to not have to do anything to Adam and Thanos, and how much of it is from something else? Because at this point Starlin had been writing stories about or involving Thanos for the last two years, from his resurrection in Silver Surfer. And given the way Starlin writes about Thanos, how did he act about him in the bullpen? Because, going by the way he writes, Starlin's obvious favouritism for the big guy probably gets wearing real fast if dealt with on a day-in, day-out basis. It's a shared universe, but all he seems to do is write the same basic story, with any other characters either being defeated by his, or standing around talking about how damn dangerous and clever they are. Not something that encourages people to want to play in the same sandbox, if the other kid just goes "no, you can't do that" at every suggestion. "What if Character X beats him?" "Nuh-uh, Thanos beats him." "How?" "He just does." "Alright, Character X thinks he beats him, because Thanos plays d-" "No. Thanos doesn't play dead." "Fine! It looks like Character X has him on the ropes, but-" "No, he doesn't. Thanos only loses when he wants to, and he doesn't respect Character X enough to want to do that." "ALRIGHT. Character X is just distracting Thanos so everyone else can get the drop on-" "No! Thanos is too smart to fall for that, and won't throw the fight, and he knows what they're doing won't work anyway." "AARGH!"
Of course, consequences would mean having to do something to Adam or Thanos, and given Starlin's love of both, especially for Thanos, I don't think he could do that, because he, from the looks of it, literally cannot bear to part from him, or even have him punished for anything he does ever for even five seconds.
And then Starlin comes along with a story where Thanos can apparently create clones who are so super-duper convincing they can totally fool the Watchers. Because of course he did.
Didn't she beat Thanos, have it turn out to be a clone, beat Thanos with the Watcher watching, then imply that was still a clone... all four parts being Slott?
