I didn't HATE this arc... I loved that she was trained by her mom and her two dads. I didn't love the art.... she is what? 16? and she is wearing a thong? not to mention Artemis who would NEVER wear that outfit... and don't get me started on 80's bustier Diana...
I will say that ummm Clark and Bruce are certainly.... bursting out... of... things....
She went from naked to wearing low-rider jeans and high-riding thong and a belly shirt that might as well have been painted on.
Turner liked drawing gorgeous, waifish, half-naked women. Which is fine until one remembers that Kara was supposed to be what, 16, and Clark is a grown man from Kansas and her older cousin, and he should have been urging her into something more sensible out of sheer Clark-ness. :)
Yeah overall I quite like this arc, and I love the idea of her being trained and raised by all three members of the trinity.
But yeah the cheesecake gets a bit much, I didn't think the nudity in the first part was that bad, and felt fairly restrained in execution but here yeah... it's totally over the top here.
What the hell is up with Artemis's outfit? It's like someone wanted to wear a full bodysuit, but missed the discomfort of having a thong riding up the ass.
some people might like the ride up... for some people... maybe it isn't painful... the pain is part of the pleasure... some people... not me... obviously.... I don't think that... but maybe... OH LOOK! IT'S male and female DC Hero swimsuit calendar drawn by Ed Benes!
If I recall correctly, according to Didio, Turner was against bringing Kara back as he just didn't see a place for her in the then DCU, but Didio and Loeb explained all their grand plans to him in order to convince him.
Looking back at that statement, it feels like Turner had it right at the time.
Of course Loeb didn't get a chance to complete his plans, so who knows. We don't know how Loeb would have resolved the "darkness" inside Kara. I will say that while they have many problems, I think the Loeb issues of Supergirl are better than most everything between the One Year Later... arc, and Sterling Gates.
Not shown the part where Batman and Superman debate the translation of the Kryptonian word for treasure... with Batman suggesting it might mean terror, or trouble. Not only is he lecturing Clark on a language Clark should know way better... To us in the real world Kryptonian is just a substitution alphabet, a different font really. So we can clearly read that is treasure.
So, Diana thinks Kara should be trained on Paradise Island. Rather than, oh say, approaching Clark and Kara, explaining her point of view, and asking Kara come with her, she gets Harbinger and Artemis and attacks them, including physically manhandling the very person she wants to take with her. (Never mind that she brings someone who would rather outright murder Batman than anything else. Good thinking there, Di.)
And it doesn't turn out that she's brainwashed, or been duped by Granny Goodness in an unconvincing wig. This is supposed to be Diana acting of her own mind and will.
