Huge announcement from Marvel

announcement six years in the making...

In 2010 Marvel fans were introduced to Hickman and artist Dustin Weaver's SHIELD, but the series never crossed the finish line, with two issues remaining. Now ComicBook.com can exclusively announce that this May SHIELD #5 and #6, as well as a brand new one-shot SHIELD: The Resurrection (collecting issues 1-4) will hit comic shops everywhere.
When this series was first announced with Gerard Parel's beautiful cover, I was immediately taken by it. I think that the entire thing needs to be dug out from my short box and read in anticipation.

this is the series that altered the history of Hydra isn't it? And that made HydraCap possible. I'm sure peope will love this:sarcasm:

It was Secret Warriors that messed about with Hydra/S.H.I.E.L.D.'S shared past.

Aside from that being more Secret Warriors than SHIELD, it seems bizarre to imply that Hickman is somehow responsible for what another writer does with his characters/ideas.

while saying it "made hydra!cap possible is a stretch, there were people who genuinely tried to argue that Hydra's retconned past to NOT be originally from the "National Socialist party" that existed in germany and was created during the 40s meant they no logner were Nazis (ignoring that Nazis has grown beyond that one definition).
nick Spencer specifically tried to argue hydra weren't REALLY Nazis (even tried to argue that they didn't work as a metaphor for Nazism becuase...... the only james bond stories he knows happened during the cold war i guess?).

So while I don't know if Hickman was the one who retconned Hydra's past or not (I haven't read SHIELD), it was a sort of Original Sin that lead to people trying to erase Hydra's identity as Nazis (again, this isn't limited to saying they weren't WW2 Nazis, but ignoring that the word Nazi has grown to become synonymous with... well... what Hydra is)

Does it predate the first Captain America movie which noted that the Hydra there has been, more or less, disowned by Hitler and the official Nazi movement?

Yes. SHIELD is 2010, First avengers 2011.
Altough First Avenger still had their origins be Nazi germany, even if they had been disowned and Red Skull was planning to betray them anyways..

Aside from the obvious flaws in logic in that statement, SHIELD was a great series and a great idea. But hey, I actually liked Secret Empire, so...

It's also the series that had Galactus regularly try to devour Earth centuries before the FF ever even knew of him. Bah.

So, huh Marvel, the problem is... in the years since I've kinda of gotten over Hickman's writing? Where once I found it interesting now I find it dull and repetitive and overblown. So, the magic's kinda gone.

I swear it's not you, it's me.

So we'll just go our separate ways now...

I never liked Hickman. I felt his cosmic epics were always pretty bad, especially after the rather good DnA stuff, and his toher stuff wasn't much better.

The first thing to understand is that I feel about Hickman the same way that this man feels about Mickey Quinn

In the lookback that another user is doing here, we're going to get to the most fun twist on a classic


His Fantastic Four was full of heart (like when Johnny and Ben met Stan and Jack)


, and it was fun when it needed to be.

The final issue where Future Franklin leaves, saying goodbye to his parents is really touching.
And in the middle, we get some full on comic book madness
