Let me get this straight. Marvel's Ultimate take on their take off of the Justice League is having a take at the Ultimates which is their take on the Avengers. Starring Nick Fury, from the Ultimate Earth.

It could *alllmost* be argued that this represents a very clever idea, in that taking Ultimate Fury from the Ultimate Universe to the Supreme Universe *infected* it somehow, causing it to spit up Avengers analogues as a result; that having Fury around drew them to him like moths to a flame.

This would be putting much, much more thought into this than Howard Chaykin may have done.

I was legit struggling with the same question as I kept reading through this.

Not only that, but they sidelined their DC-lite characters in order to use Fury as the narrative focus? This story is such an incredible mess on multiple levels.

I will admit that Old Soldier has the potential to look impressive, but the art really ruins the effect. If it's not the proportions being off in some panels, it's things like the toes.

The Old Soldier in Astro City carries the concept much better, I think.
