As you can probably guess Buster proceeds to age rapidly while Walter is aging in reverse. It isn't until long that Walter is a child and Buster the adult.
For someone obsessed with rejuvenation, the professor doesn't seem very interested in staying a baby and growing back up the normal way. Neither does the narrator. Nobody here wants to double their lifespan?
Sure, the first few years would suck. I'd rather restart from 10 or something. But still, I would rather endure a couple years of helplessness than throw away the opportunity of living doubly as longer.
