In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.

Technically, Net Neutrality in the USA ended on Monday 23rd April, the end of the 60 day consultation period, but it's unlikely that your ISP provider will do anything immediately because the negative PR would be impressive. But keep an eye out, as it's been speculated they'll wait a bit until you're not paying attention, then gradually up the ante... think... lobsters in pots of water slowly coming to the boil.

In (I'm sure completely unrelated) news the NTA has given its Charlton Heston Courage Award to Ajit Pai (I guess the inanimate carbon rod declined) for his brave decision, and presented him with a handmade Kentucky long gun.

A statue of Millicent Fawcett, one of the pioneer Sufragette's has been unveiled in London's Parliament Square, the first statue of a woman in that place, to celebrate 100 years of women in Britain getting the vote.

The UK has a new holder of the title "Fifth in line to the throne" as the Duke and Duchess of Kent welconme their third child, a boy, to the world.

The last 12 Toys'R'Us stores in the UK shut their sdoors for the last time today (the others closed over the past few days).

In one of those "genuinely sad, but still slightly restoring your faith in humanity" stories, a man who died whilst running the London Marathon at the weekend, and who had hoped to raise £2,500 for a local charity, has inspired donations to be made to the charity by members of the public in excess of £90,000.

Let us raise a bottle of maple syrup to James Shaw Jr, the unarmed man who wrestled the rifle out of the hands of a gunman (since arrested) who opened fire at a Waffle House restaurant in Nashville.

"Avengers: Infinity War" opens at the end of the week. Which will at least hopefully end the merciless, seemingly endless media coverage.

Is anyone watching "Krypton"? I can't seem to find anything in the way of actual coverage on it, it's not even garnering bad stuff like Inhumans did. Is it any good?

Oh, dear. I've been very ill. As it is, I have to wake up at one in the morning to get to work, but last night I had no sleep whatsoever, so the whole time I was at my job I felt like I was going to faint!

In brighter news, those of you with a PS4 might want to check out the new demo of Detroit: Become Human. It's a little clunky to control, but I really love the interactive story style of it. It reminds me of those old Choose Your Own Adventure books :D

I hope you get well soon

Regarding the Net Neutrality thing, bear two things in mind:

1)There is still a massive court fight underway where over twenty states, free speech groups, and a coalition of video game companies are fighting the decision via lawsuit, and Pai's legal precedent to kill Net Neutrality is shaky at best, especially considering the public opinion period was obviously compromised by Anti Net Neutrality Spam bots flooding the comments section (of which Pai did nothing). So its pretty likely that the Cable companies wont do anything until the court things are settled since they don't want their hands in the cookie jar.

2) A number of states have already begun to make their own Net Neutrality laws (In spit of Pai saying that they couldn't do that when he wrote the repeal). For a few this is nothing more than a Executive order, but in some places like Washington and I think Vermont its been signed into actual law. The basic work around they are using that if Internet providers don't adhere with net neutrality, the state will not do business with them.

I always had a feeling that trying to protect Net Neutrality in the federal level was a waste of time as long as Trump and his cronies were in charge up there. I kept seeing all these "We only need one more vote in the senate to save Net Neutrality:" and just groaned and rolled my eyes because I knew that one vote was gonna have to be a Republican and we weren't getting it. No, Net Neutrality, for now at least, will be defended in the courts and the states. So you want to save Net Neutrality, call your State Attorney General or your Governor and tell them to get in on this.

Stupid question: why does Mr. Pai call this the “plan to restore internet freedom”? What freedom is being restored that was taken away previously?

Earth Day was this weekend but we have a Captain Planet villain running the EPA.

We had another bunch of school walkouts protesting gun violence on Friday. Thankfully the Democrats responded with a bold new proposal. ... to legalize pot on the federal level. Thanks for having your finger on the pulse, guys.

Former First Lady Barbara Bush died last week. Regardless of how you feel about her, I sort of think the internet's reaction as a whole has been unbelievablely tacky.

There was another mass shooting over the weekend but I'm sure the gun people will point out that even more of our friends up north were just killed by a car.

But hey, the world isn't completely terrible because now twitter and youtube are full of cats playing with Nintendo Labo.

It took a long time, but I've finished my first big, real article for a website. Still needs editing and proof-reading, but I'm excited to release it when it's all done! The subject matter? An overview and discussion of the last She-Hulk run, its success, but also it's failures.

I thought it looked decent! Since the movie doesn't come out until October, they have plenty of time to tweak the effects. Frankly reminded me of the Prototype videogame.

Plus I'm a big fan of Tom Hardy.

On the one hand, finally! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. Venom himself looks really cool (I like how 5e costume grows over him) and I like Tom Hardy in his other works.

On the other, the last time there was a spinoff that attempted to remove all ties to the series the character spun off from, we got Catwoman.

To me it felt a whole lot like the first episode of a 90s syndicated antihero show. I half expect the movie to end with him driving off on a motorcycle to his next adventure (tm)

I found out from a friend last weekend that the anime Overlord, which just ended it's 2nd season last month, is getting a third one, and in July no less! Considering Madhouse (the animation studio making it) rarely does more than one season of anything, this was a big surprise for me.

Last week, Miraculous Ladybug aired their Zombizou episode. It's not that they snuck stuff past the radar so much as hit the radar with a rocket launcher, with one pairing subtly confirmed by the creators. Which is cool because I adore those two characters together.

And Into the Badlands kicked off season 3 Sunday night. I wish the show had more of a following. Like, Walking-Dead-All-Over-Oh-God-I'm-Not-Interested-Stop-Talking-To-Me-About-It level following.

That way I won't have to be nervous every time a season ends that it's going to be taken away.

Welp, I'm trying my hand at my own YouTube series. And appropriately enough, it's about comics! Here's my introduction video:

https://youtu.be/1XEnRF4fMbQ

The first episode comes out tomorrow - because, you know, New Comic Book Day - and will tackle Scott McCloud's The Sculptor.

I THINK it's against the rules to make my own post for the video tomorrow.

Has anybody else played Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice?

Nominated for 9 BAFTAs, winner of 5.

It's a sort of mythological horror story about a Pictish woman with psychosis venturing into Helheim to rescue the soul of her lover. The team consulted with mental health professionals, people experiencing psychosis and voice hearers as they developed the character of Senua and her experience.

It is beautiful and horrible in equal measures. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but it is one of the best games I've played in years.

Just wondering, would it be ok to make a rec post for a comics series and end it with the conclusion that it has as many awful flaws as it has good parts but waitwaitwait it also has an animated prequel that's a hundred times better, go watch the cartoon instead/before you read the comics?

I really enjoyed it (though, as usual, got a bit sick of the HBO trademarked violence). Bernard and Maude were my favourite characters from the first season, so seeing what they're doing was great, and it's set up a lot of mysteries plus multiple timelines. The only thing I'm not so pleased about is the Man in Black surviving, because his storyline brings out the worst of the excessive violence and I was hoping he was done after his tantrum on discovering the mystery of the labyrinth wasn't about him after all.

I learnt that Jess Nevin's will be returning to do annotations for the final volume of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Not terribly surprising perhaps, but confirmation is nice.

Also in the latest issues of Optimus Prime, something really quite unexpected happened. It also makes my head hurt when I think about it too much.

Our local theatre held a screening of two films by Masaaki Yuasa (director of Devilman Crybaby, Ping Pong: The Animation and Adventure Time S6E7) as part of the Japanese Film Festival: Lu Over the Wall and The Night is Short, Walk On Girl.

I really liked them both! The animation and designs were wonderful (especially with Lu and her Father), the characters were likeable, the soundtrack and animation was gorgeous and the adventures they went on a were a lot of fun to see. I think I slightly preferred the latter over the former, though, since I felt Walk On Girl had better pacing and the events never felt as disjointed as Lu could sometimes get, though Lu’s climax and ending did make me cry. I’d highly recommend them regardless, though they’re rather trippy and farcical on Shakespearean proportions: if you’re not fond of that kind of thing, then they might not be for you.

Also: apparently, The Night is Short, Walk On Girl has some connection to another series/book called Tatami Galaxy? What were they like, and what is the connection between them and the film/the book the film is based on?

Tatami Galaxy was kind of trippy; it's about a college student who makes certain decisions and most of the episodes cover the same time frame but with different decisions.

I'm watching Krypton. Enjoying it very much. Wasn't sure about the time travel aspects at first, but while I still think it was unnecessary (though given the character the last episode brought in, it seems to be beginning to pay off*), it doesn't detract.

In less pleasant news - there was a van attack in Toronto yesterday afternoon, killing 10 and injuring over a dozen others. We still don't know the motives, though it was certainly not part of an organized thing, and there are reports that the killer apparently identified as an 'incel', and posted about 'incel rebellion' immediately before the attack, and seemed to be attempting suicide by cop at the end (he lied about having a gun and yelled at the cops who were arresting him to shoot him).
