Has there ever been one of these stories where the Superman, Ultron, or whatever wasn't in a hurry to take over the world?

Seriously unless the Uberbeing is on some kinda clock why not just take over the world by running for office/becoming mega rich/starting a cult of personality.

Mark alone using his powers could probably make more money than Google, Amazon, and Facebook combined in a decade. Given 50 or hell even a 100 I am hard pressed to see how the world wouldn't be completely his with nary a shot fired and everyone that mattered fully on board.

That kind of reminds me of this webcomic where a bunch of people approach Superman and tell him the best use for his incredible powers would be to push this wheel for all eternity and provide free power to the rest of the world, and so he does it until they invent a better energy source and he ends up becoming a security guard at a Museum about himself as a "Transitional power source."
