...Okay, so is this suggesting that the criminal who killed Bruce's Parents, is in fact, a Bruce from a Parallel Bad future who shot the Wayne's because a stable timeline literally depends on Batman's parents dying in an alley to street violence? All thanks to Booster Gold Shenanigans?
This is so fucking stupid it reaches parody levels. This is on the same level of that "MY PARENTS ARE DEAD" comic from a few years ago, But somehow even worse because at least that was fanmade and meant as a parody, this was published by DC and was meant to be taken seriously.
This may be the second dumbest thing I've seen from a DC product in recent memory. The dumbest being that I saw a clip from Justice League Gods and Monsters where the Gods of New Genesis go totally red wedding on the Gods of Apokalyps during Orion and Bekka (that universe Wonder Woman) and slaughter all Darkseid's forces, which is such a betrayal of the core concept of the New Gods that Jack Kirby must be spinning in his grave so fast he just hit oil.
I don't think AU Bruce killed them more seeing them die and learning that was how it was supposed to be was too much for him so he just killed himself.
You know I get that King just wanted to kill time so the big wedding could happen at issue 50 but there have to be plenty of filler stories that would have been better than this.
(Worth it just for " Being the original partner to Batman, [Dick Grayson's] the natural choice to be Bruce Wayne’s best man. So if anyone has to get to the wedding, it’s going to be him. Too bad Hush has other plans.. ")
For me its a toss up between "Anarky trying to crash Catwoman's Bachelorette party while Jason is running security" and "Harley gives Joker a piece of her mind (and some whacks from her Hammer) for trying to crash the wedding." (And that one comes out on my Birthday yet.)
Maybe have them solve some mystery together? you know, highlight what she brings to the table and how she can be a hero of her own right.
Or maybe have her connect with other members of the Bat-Family. Maybe have her try to know Damian better, but Damian has confused feeligns about the whole thing.
Or maybe just an entire issue dedicated to Alfred having to feed Selina's cat. I don't know. anything.
So the moral of the story is Stop writing the same Alan Moore story, but shit. To be quite honest, I think we'd've been better off if Tom King just grabbed Geoff Johns by the lapels and screamed "FOR FUCKS SAKE, NO ONE WANTS DOOMSDAY CLOCK!!!" It'd been more effective (and more entertaining).
It's more the general sense of superhero comics repeatedly learning the wrong lessons about the work of Alan Moore. They take the aspects of the text that are dark and grim while claiming to be inspired by Alan Moore. Booster explicitly says that the inspiration for him saving Bruce's parents is For The Man Who Has Everything. And so we get this grim, bleak future where everything's gone wrong in a 90's sort of way (look at that gun). Doomsday Clock is just the most recent example of "Ripping off Alan Moore for "adult" storytelling."
