So originally Lobo was David Bowie?

You know, seeing this, that Handsome Bishonen Lobo they came out with a while back makes WAAAAY more sense.

I never read early Omega Men, so I never realized just how very... Giffen, everything is here. Huh.

And wow, Lobo changed a lot from his first portrayal to his classic look and attitude. I remember him when they brought him on board L.E.G.I.O.N. and he was already in the classic style.

Or about 80% of the way to his classic style, at least. That was completed in his first mini, where Simon Bisley drew him for the first time and Giffen turned his crudeness up to 11. Lobo's JLI and earliest L.E.G.I.O.N. appearances were just before that; he was already in biker gear, but his dress and dialogue were still a little...clean.

Wow, that is...that is a long way from where he would end up. This is VERY Giffen, but I don't consider that to be a bad thing. I remember Omega Men being a big deal when they were brand new, but I don't know that they ever found a lasting audience, per se.

I do find the 'allow me to explain my powers at length during a fight' trope to be kind of amusing, in hindsight.
