This comic is just the worst.

I wondered if it was *this* series.

All those people comparing about Roar ruining childhoods and that a single minute of Thundercats reached the quality of the opening have seen this right? Oh god, they'd find it hot.

Oh gods...this thing. I remember a friend who didn't have a local comic shop wanting these (huge T-Cat Nerd) so I got them...didn't read them...and shipped them. I feel so bad for causing his trauma.

Ok, honest question: What about Thundercats: The Return made it so bad? The only thing I know about it is that it exists and that it was a grimdark take on the Thundercats franchise.

Terrible narrative techniques (i.e, having Snarf spend the first few pages narrating a big epic battle instead of showing it), a complete break in tone from the series it's based on, a plot that makes no sense at all, and the unnecessary injection of a ton of grimdark stuff in an attempt to make an 80s kids' show more "mature."

Most of all, though, a TON of sexism and misogyny. Wilykit gets some pretty horrible treatment (plus, the weird desire to hyper-sexualize a character who was a kid in the series), and it's very strong implied if not outright stated that Cheetara has been gang-raped for years prior to the start of this story.

It's a tin-eared, poorly written, nostalgia cash-in that shows no attempt to even honour the original outside of character designs and names. It's pointlessly grimdark and is plagued with terrible cheesecake art. Even compared to contemparies at the time like Devils Due GI Joe books, it fails completely understand the property and could have been used with only changed names for literally any characters in existence.

Still beats the Dogs of War miniseries, albeit by a slim margin.
