A series of simple operations, like disassembling an egg-beater.

Damn, the Kangaroo came prepared with boxing gloves.

The old boxing Kangaroo scam, did people actually do that? I mean I know the old cartoons and comics really go to town on that gag, the boxing match with a Kangaroo, but did it ever actually happen? I feel this is just such a weird thing, even by Silver Age standards.

Also, Jimmy is a dick who deserves whatever hideous mutation befalls him next.

Can't find any detailed source about the practice. but it DOES seem to have been a thing for circus to do during the late XIX century and probably in the early XX.

The image comes from the fact that Kangaroos defense mechanism and method of playing with other kangaroos DOES somewhat resemble human boxing and the image became popular in Australia as a symbol.

In reality it IS a VERY bad idea to do it not just because of the harm done to the animal, but because if they believe the fight is for real, they are likely to kick you with the claws in their feet, which is enought to kill you

Also, Superman, the snake's owner is, like, right there, calling out helpful snake advice. Don't steal his snake, dude.

Is that the owner? It might just be a random snake-knowledgeable bystander!

He actually says it's his snake in one of the panels. So yeah, Superman stole his snake.

He's gonna give it to Batman to lure the snakehandler to Gotham and give Bruce a new Snake themed Villain for his rogues gallery.

I absolutely love that the first time Jimmy smacks Lucy, you know accidentally, Lucy seems more offended that Jimmy would think that he is the kind of a guy who can do something like that. Like way to continue to be messed up, Silver Age.

Oh the Silver Age, you can be so bizarre and amazing, and misogynistic.

Mort Weisinger really hated women.

In a later letter page, a reader points out that snakes are deaf (which apparently isn’t completely accurate actually, but whatever) so that scene doesn’t make sense. I can’t remember what Weisinger’s BS explanation was, but in typical Weisinger fashion, one was provided.

This story always reminds me of his MC Lyte song.

Note to modern employers: if someone turns in a script that's just a contrived series of excuses for a woman to get repeatedly hit, slapped, and punched? You should really refer them to therapy.

If you told me the original script accidentally refers to Lucy as "Mom" at some point, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Yeah, domestic violence was either 'a family problem' or good for a comedy sketch back then. All this 'accidental' beating up on Lucy is very Freudian.
