In the era of leaked surprises and long trailed storylines, it's always good to see a surprise in comics, especially a surprise wedding.

In fact, this was such a surprise, I'm not even going to tell you what it was until you open the cut

In Thor #3, Balder the Brave (current King of Hel) and Hela (former Queen of Hel) decide that rather than fight each other for the right to the throne of Hel, they should get married.

Except...

But when did Thanos and Hela hook up? That was in Unworthy Thor #5

In Thor #4, Thanos tells the wedding party that Hela would "tear [Baldur] apart".

The Queen of Cinders attacks, Thanos tells Hela that "we need to talk"

Getting back with an ex. Classic dick move.
With the help of Thor and the Valkyries, the armies of Niffleheim see off Sindr and her forces. Sindr escapes through the Black Bifrost, and there's still a wedding to complete.

Loki's wedding present to Karnilla is to send Balder back to the realm of the living.

Yep. Thor #4 had two women marrying each other, as not seen in the New York Times

Did they explain how Skurge ends up back alive for Asgardians of the Galaxy?

... I still think it's a shame that Thanos and Hela went down the drain so quickly. I'd have liked to see the two bounce off of each other a bit.

yeah. It would have an interesting status quo to have... buuut i guess since he is too tied to Marvel Cosmic events (particularly the infinity stones, even before the MCU), it simply could not be.

"I prefer a good sword"

Innuendo?

well.. have YOU seen Brunnhilde's "Dragonfang"? it is a good sword indeed and makes me love her even more whenever she wields it.

I figured Karnilla was missing Balder's "sword" already but whatever.

Also.... Karnilla and Hela together just seems like an excuse to gather the universe's greatest hats in one place.

yeahhh... this is...
Okay, I am going to be fair and admit that this is not too different from your typical political marriage and it's, like, half the marriages in Game of Thrones (the other half don't reach the honeymoon...). So I guess there is an argument to be said that this is a step in expanding the scope of stories involving equal marriage

But... it is a wedding in which one of the brides is CLEARLY not into this idea and is doing so sacrificing her own happiness. It MAY lead to something good but right now and... I am not comfortable with calling this "two women marrying each other"...

Women entering into loveless marriages with each other for political expedience is, I suppose, technically progress, but I agree, this isn't exactly a "Love wins," moment.

I mean, it's not as if the marriage would have been any more full of love if Balder had been the one marrying Hela...

There were rumors that Hela was going to be the MCU version of Thanos’s Death so I wonder if this was an attempt at preemptive synergy.

I think what you mean is that maybe the original plan was having hela and thanos be lovers, it was scraped, but some of it came to the comics.
synergy operates with inside knowledge, not rumors.

Am I the only one who fells Balder needs to get his shit together? Out of the three siblings (four if you count Angela) Balder is the least impressive by far.

I think he's still ahead of Tyr.

Isn't Hermod supposed to be one of Odin's kids too?

And Vidar too. Not that he was seen in decades.

Are we counting Tyr?

Also, Balder was great as written by Walt Simonson. It's other people's fault for not being as good a writer.

Aren't they up to 5 siblings, including Angela?

Thor Odinson
Loki
Balder
Tyr
Angela

Though I always forget that Tyr and Balder are bros as well.

Try at least 9. (You missed: Hermod, Vidar, Bragi, Laussa (she is at least a literal baby)) Most weren't seen for a long time.

I actually feel the opposite way.

In the Thor movies I think there are two characters who are noticably absent. One of them is Balder the Brave (the other is Amora the Enchantress but that's beside the point).

Then I remembered that the plot revolves around Odin not wanting to give power to either son because one is evil and the other is an idiot. Dropping Balder into the movies would have resolved about half the conficts in that series.

Simonson' Balder may have been fighting some major PTSD but he still got stuff done.

What's Angela actually done?

Also, while mythical Tyr is pretty badass, I can't say I've ever been interested in comic Try.

Yeah, Balder being around would really muck up the Thor/Loki dynamic in the movies. As much as I wish they'd included him, I doubt we'll see it. (Though NOW might be a good point to introduce a "long lost" brother).

Its not completely out of character for the Norse Sun God to be a bit wet I must admit.

Objectivly, this is awesome. I should be loving it. I am just not feeling it. Why is that? Thanos is a little out of character, but I'm not really bothered. Being in-character means being Starlins annoying pet character for him.

I think it is because the rug gets pulled out from under everything awesome before it gets time to shine. Everything is too quick. And the art is not my thing really.

Balder as the King of Hel? Awesome. The Black Sun, burning away the mists of Helheim. Maybe getting to develop some power of his own now that he has a realm of his own.

King Balder and his sidekick Tyr, driving around in his hog, visiting dead relatives and seeing his kingdom? Awesome!

But they are all gone before they get to shine, returning us to an old status quo.

*sigh*
