I think they used that cover, with the zombified Ms. Marvel attacking Rogue, as a basis for an episode of the 90's animated X-men series, where they explain how Rogue can fly and has super strength, and Mystique is Gaslighting her by appearing as Ms. Marvel to trigger her memories. And the episode ends with her going to the hospital where Carol's comatose body is, kissing her, and it implies that somehow transfers her soul back so she begins to wake up.

I'm not sure I got who everyone is. Could we maybe get Captain Exposition in to explain it all? Maybe in a page entirely covered in prose?

What's weird though is that Carol was off being Binary in outer space at this point, if I'm not mistaken. This story treats what we're seeing as if it were actually her, but it's more like the memories Rogue stole from her given their own body and ability to act independently.

For a while, Carol was a full on seperate personality from Rogue. One who even had control over Rogue's powers. And after this then she wasn't but Rogue still had the Ms. Marvel powers because comics.
