Since The Dom is doing a "lost in adaptation" for Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world, I considered a good time to do a post about it, starting with the first volume "Scott's precious little life"
We begin the story learning that our 23 years-old hero is dating a 17 years-old high-schooler.

This early part is mostly for setting up the more mundane aspects of the world and that Scott's life is... well, pretty crappy despite what he may tell himself, before the plot begins.
Also, despite my initial comment, I do find Scott's relationship with Knives not as squicky as it could be, since Scott is clearly not trying to take advantage of her and is often shown as the one trying to take things slowly. I am glad the relationship is ended as quick as it did, but I can see a little of what the movie expanded upon.
We also meet Scott's sister, whom the author regretted naming after his sister, which is why she is demoted to an extra by the end of the series, despite her prominence in the first couple of books.

After that, he has a strange dream, or rather, a stranger telling him he is dreaming.

But even stranger is when he sees said stranger once again in the library.

Only for her to show up again in his dream the next day. (Also take note of the girl in the electric keyboard, it is a plot point)

Then at a party, he begins asking around to see if anyone has seen a girl with colored hair, to which he discovers her name is Ramona, that she works for Amazon and is in that very same party, too.

I would say that was an awkward statement to make, but considering things, he can hardly be blamed.
Anyway, Here scott asking Wallace about Amazon.

Can i say? wallace is hands down the best character in the series. He always has the best lines and is clearly the one who gets the most enjoyment out of the whole thing.
Anyways, Scott makes a purchase, but has to wait until after the weekend for his package to arrive. However, that monday...

(as a side note, the "chapters" are mostly an aesthetic choice, since this was published as a full graphic novel).

Ramona takes Scott to her place so he can spend the night until the storm passes.

Scott does invite Ramona to see Sex bob-omb play next wednesday night

jumping straight to wednesday...

Which later becomes even more awkward when Ramona comes.

however, they are interrupted by some guy who tries to attack Scott.
Unlucky him...

Scott does ask who that guy is... which turns out to be the first of Ramona's Exes.

he also informs him that ALL of Ramona's exes are going after him.
Anyways, here is a random group attack powered by friendship.

Afterwards

I got into this book thanks to the late, lamented "Wizard" magazine highlighting it and glad I did. And while I love the movie (with its great soundtrack), the original comic is still a true gem.

We both grew up on comics, video games, and both shared a love for River City Ransom. So, two nerds living in Toronto and recognizing every little video game reference in that game?
Yeah, it was an amazing experience. It was like the game was made just for us two.
