no no no no no no no no no.... even if Bruce did that, Gordon would never say that to him... he'd say "get some damned help" he'd never say he was sick of him,. he would never say he thought he was better than them. I know you are trying to break him down... but no.... not from the people who care about him.
I think Bane's breaking of the Batman is more in line with The Drak Knight Rises than with Knightfall, and plans to leave Batman a truly broken shell of what he once was in every way. First, he breaks his heart (THE HEART, OSBORN!) by planting the idea in Catwoman's head that Batman can only be Batman if he's miserable, then he takes away his reputation, gaslights him into questioning his own sanity, takes out his family to show him how utterly alone he truly is and that no one is safe around him, etc. He'll probably wait for the point where Batman will beg Bane to put him out of his misery, for then, and only then, will the Bat be broken.
Mind you, a lot of his plan relies a lot on coincidence, convolution and making sure things align *just* right and in the most petty of ways ("I ruined his already questionably-performed marriage! I WIN"), but still.
I like Tom King, I'm willing to reserve judgement on his run as a whole until we see the entire arc of the story. But I'll admit, at this point I'm mostly interested in the question of whether or not Penguin's Penny was in fact a penguin with a pink bow on her head.
"So, Commissioner Gordon, here's what you are going to say when Batman attacks me. And here's what you will say after he hits you. Trust me, he WILL hit you. Not hard, but you'll get knocked down."
Oh, yeah, that's the other thing. In this sort of story, I generally assume that *everything* we see is a play by one side or another. Is Bane controlling Gordon? Has he replaced him? Did Batman and Gordon choreograph this confrontation ahead of time?
Shades of the scene from "Going Postal", where the burlys of the Mended Drum are organising a bar brawl.
"Look, I know how to fake a punch. Now, should I do the Dramatic Flying Back, or a sort of Collapse Onto The Ground?" "Well, we want it to look organic, so just go with how the moment takes you. But afterwards, I think we need some Anguished Yelling." "Hmmm." "What?" "I just think maybe this is more Betrayed Shouting territory. Do you want an "I Hate You", or-" "No, that's too contrived." "Alright, alright..."
All these great questions and analysis of the story, and here I am, just trying to figure out when Gordon got color back in his hair. Has it been that way since the New 52 reboot?
