One of the first things I said was, “I want to make sure we're offering something to appeal to somebody who has been watching Riverdale and is interested in picking up the comics while also being true to the established history and legacy of the characters." It's been about finding that balance of the soap opera and darkness of Riverdale contrasted with the kind of wholesome, All-American nature of the classic Archie comics. -- Nick Spencer

I'm torn between the pure "nope" that is "the Archie comic should be more like Riverdale*" and the brilliance of Juggy as a food bloger.

*Which went from "so bad that it's good" in season one to "so bad that it's unwatchable" in season two.

Jughead Jones, food blogger, is the best idea ever. I wish it was a real thing.

I never liked Riverdale, but I like this so far.

I enjoy Riverdale for its deliberately over-the-top, shlocky, "check your brain at the door" fun, but yeah, going whole-hog with that in comic-book form almost certainly wouldn't work. Which (along with, presumably, sales) is probably why the publisher cancelled the actual Riverdale comic, which had its moments both serious and funny but at bottom was really not at all in the same universe as the show in spirit, though it was in letter.

On the other hand, combining the narrative style of the show with the more restrained nature of "regular" Archie is a clever choice, and if this first issue is any indication, may well pay off.

Did Morning Glories ever wrap up? I swear the last time I looked at that they went on hiatus and didn't pick it back up.

Season 3 hasn't started - there's just Joe Eisma's Patreon-exclusive Morning Glories sidestory.

I don't know if it's an actual reference to a character in pop culture, but I suspect that in Riverdale calling someone a "Whitey Bulger" means something quite, quite different.

Whitey Bulger was an American crime boss. He was just convicted, sentenced, and promptly murdered by other inmates earlier this year.

Whitey Bulger was a Boston mobster who was on the lam for years, though it's highly likely the FBI knew exactly where he was the whole time.
