The version I read had the killer sister's act of betrayal revealed to everyone when the bones of the dead sister were made into a harp that sang the crime.
Yeah, but I think they just stuck the brothers Grimm's name on this cause it sounds cool. This comic series eventually gets into Oz and Alice, so I don't think they really care.
Stories in which a bride is replaced by subterfuge or murder aren't uncommon, although all the ones that leap to mind at the moment have a serving girl or other interloper, rather than the true bride's sister responsible.
Apparently its meant to be The Robber Bridegroom. The 'turn back young bride" on the cover is a line from the original story. The story involves a millers daughter who is betrothed to a mysterious rich man, who lives in the woods. The suitor says he'll leave a trail of ash for her to follow so she can visit him.
Following the trail she arrives at a dark house. A caged bird tells her to turn back. An old woman in a cellar kitchen tells her that the houses inhabitants would kill and eat her, if they found her. She tells the bride to hide behind a cask.
The suitor and his robber band arrive, with the corpse of a woman they killed. They try and cut off a finger to get a ring, but it lands in the brides lap. The old woman drugs the robber band and the pair are able to escape.
On their wedding day the bride reveals the suitors crimes, and he and his band are put to death.
So this has some elements of that, but its more lose then previous issues have been.
