NS: DC Cancels Jesus Christ Superhero Comic, Second Coming

"Late last year, DC Comics announced that its Vertigo imprint would publish Second Coming, a satirical comic book series in which Jesus Christ is forced to learn to be humanity's savior from a superhero named Sun-Man. Today, series writer Mark Russell revealed that the series will not be released by DC after all.
That being said, the comic has not been outright canceled. Russell has assured that the comic will still be released, just by a different publisher. Moreover, he explained that this is a decision that was reached amicably."

Not sure why this comic would be any more blasphemous than all the other comics starring Jesus.

Like, censorship is wrong obviously, but even if you think it's right, why focus on that comic in particular when there are at least a dozen similar ones?

A) winning the culture war
B) DC is a big company owned by a big company and more sensitive to bad publicity than publishers who make their name with books like this.

IDK, the most recent Jesus comic I can think of is Wormwood, which comes from a company whose most successful comic amounts to glorified guro porn.

(There is the Preacher show but I just think no one even cares about that to muster up any outrage. Hitler is a supporting character on that show and it didn't even make a blip on the cultural radar.)

I'm guessing chrtistianism watchdogs felt like they were losing the censorship race after islam watchdogs had the "A Suicide Bomber Sits in the Library" comics cancelled last year and the artist of "La vie de Mahomet (Life of Muhammad)" murdered four years ago.
So they are now more agressive than ever.

IIRC there's an anime (manga? Both?) where Jesus and Buddha are roommates. I assume it will NEVER make its way to the US for obvious reasons

Reading between the lines, it sounds like DC was willing to publish it but was imposing changes to make it less offensive, which Mark Russell wasn't happy about, so he moved it to a different publisher.

I would just like for publishers to stop cancelling / dropping titles after they already solicited them. And absolutely positively not after they solicited them repeatedly.

The ones that really annoy me are the collection cancelations. They already paid the creative team, they have the material... just print the stupid thing.

I assume they cancelled the collections for Books of Magic and Sandman Mystery Theater that were supposed to come put last year but they did a lousy job of communicating it. Also pretty annoyed that the previous aborted attempt to collect them made it farther into the series.
