Man, every time Nick Spencer brings up Quasar it feels like I got granted a wish on a monkey's paw.
Wendell: Completely sideline and irrelevant, retired due to being 'broken' in a unclear way. Hinted to be related to his cosmic awareness suddenly coming back, a power the bands never gave out until Spencer decided they did.
Avril: Former shield agent, good enough to have Maria Hill's complete trust. Shown with on-screen girlfriend. Completely wrecked and I believe killed during the Hydra event. If they were going to legacy Wendell (for the *third* time), it would've been nice if she could've stuck around.
The Captain Marvel tie ins seemed to indicate that Avril died when she took down the shield to let the space heroes back in for the finale of Secret Empire
Kinda sad that she died in a tie in book but that's just how Marvel rolls
I'm just hoping Spencer doesn't kill off Connor's Lizard family.
I found the ending of Clone Conspiracy where they're drooling monsters and Curt being delusional to be unpleasant but Spencer having them as being intelligent while still monsters (and dealing with ensuing angst in Billy's case) was an interesting development.
Yeah... that was really the best way to keep him interesting.
Kraven’s a c-list villain who had one great story that ended with him killing himself. There’s only so many variants of “most dangerous game” you can do at this point.
I think there are still stories in him if you play him off his brother. Otherwise “most dangerous game” gets real old real fast.
I mean, honestly, he was FUN in SG but the whole idea of "Kraven the Monster Hunter" would have eventually set him down the same path. Eventually he'd go after heroic(ish) monsters like the Lizard or Morbious and attract the attention of Spider-Man. Or they could cut out the middle man and tell yet another Man-Spider story and throw Kraven in. Didn't the 90s show do just that?
If there are only six targets, only six hunters amongst that crowd are actually going to get a kill. Maybe Kraven needs to build up a bigger stock before holding such a big display? And even if it does go off without a hitch, how long before the greater society of supervillains turns on him for running their kind as the most dangerous game?
That stupid planet shield returns. The government just wanted to erase all trace of it? I don;t believe that for a second.
Not to spoil things, but those aren't the only animal-themed villains Kraven has imprisoned, and his grand scheme is a bit more far-reaching, apparently.
So if he gets through this intact, he'll have pissed off a LOT of people.
I'll admit that some of the previous issues left me underwhelmed with her characterization but these scans are the best I've seen May in ages.
Vulture*? Wow, the next incarnation of the Sinister Six got even more awkward and this was already a team that should have dumped Sandman over his heroic* tendencies ages ago. Speaking of which, is Otto being Spider-Man common knowledge at this point? I'd think most of the Six would want him dead just because of the events of Superior Team-Up.
*Also, how is hunting a 90 year old man for sport remotely a challenge? I mean I know he has razor wings and the strength of ten old men but still..
**Forget Kraven. Sandman is the redemption arc I miss.
Also, which son is that? I thought all of Kraven's interesting kids were dead. All one of them.
Also, I know he had at least three kids. Alyosha was the only interesting one. Granted he's a DeMatteis character and that guy is the only reason anyone cares about the Kravens in the first place.
(Though the "Al Kraven" phase was such a departure it really should have been a new character)
I am glad Ryan Ottley got a chance to draw the Serpent Society (briefly) in #16 after co-creating (I think) the Lizard League copies in the Invincible universe. I hope the Serpent Society (and other animal themed villains) get to appear more in these issues.
