NS: Riverdale actor Luke Perry dead at 52.

After a massive stroke last week, Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews on Riverdale, has died at 52. The show has gone on hiatus to give cast and crew time to mourn Perry, who was apparently close to the rest of the cast.

As a Riverdale fan (I was too young to be into the original 90120 when it aired), I was very sad to hear about Perry earlier today. The show, for all its deliberate over-the-topness, has a fine cast but I've always felt his performance as Fred Andrews was the standout.

A Riverdale Season 3 ongoing comic was recently solicited. I wonder what impact the loss of Perry will have on that.

I'm sorry to hear that. I used to "watch" Beverly Hills as a child (my elder sister watched it and I sat with her), and I always liked him. My condolences to his loved ones.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this. As a Riverdale fan, I always eagerly looked forward to his scenes. I doubt the show will recast this part, but it will be interesting to see what happens going forward. But now, remembrance of a fine actor and from all accounts, a good man. RIP, Mr. Perry.

My preference in situations like this is to let the character die with the actor, but, given that it's Riverdale, the line between disrespecting Perry and keeping within the feel of the series is a razor-thin one. (If they do go that way, I hope they err toward discarding the latter, obviously.)

The show has already killed off characters there were around for decades in the comics, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Fred Andrews fall victim to whatever the latest menace will be in town, though it might a repeat of his own father's death: passing away quietly in his own bed.

A stroke at 52 is too frelling young. Mind you, one of my friends died of a stroke at age 28 back in '06. :(
