Surprisingly -- because I don’t normally enjoy writing villains -- our Big Bad’s dialogue seems to come to me effortlessly. We ended up with a good, relatively unique “voice” for that character. -- Mark Waid

I wonder if Hulk holds a grudge over that time Nightmare helped to drive him into a mindless rage just to kill Doctor Strange, way back in the circa- issues 290-300 run. :)

He's called the Devil Hulk because he's very forgiving and kind.

They do reference their history and he just laid claim to Nightmare's castle.
