Sakura Wars the Manga Chapter 5: Oogami is shocked

Oogami resigns saying he cant sit by while Tokyo is invaded by demons.



He then runs into Maria who calls him a cow in Russian (which is apparently a pretty serious insult), and informs him that Yoneda was part of the original anti-Kouma demon squad, in the last war.









Sakura drags Oogami to a hidden room and tells him to jump into a hole in the wall, as he plunges it changes his clothes (sorry I had to cut this). It's something like this:

Okay I think this scanlation had a translation note that got lost somewhere... The Imperial Operetta Troupe, is a disguise that hides the Imperial Floral Assault Troupe (pronounced the same).

I'm digging the wordplay. As with its use in other manga and anime I've consumed, it makes me want to learn more Japanese.

Well, that's what got my daughter started, and she ended up with a degree in it as well as a year's study overseas.

Over time, I picked up a few words here and there, but never to her satisfaction. And while she knew in some cases I was deliberately mispronouncing things, it drove her NUTS. This is what the Dad do.

So one time, she was berating me in the car about it, and I nodded thoughtfully and said, "Souka...", which means "I see".

"Okay," she said grudgingly after a minute. "You do know that one."

That's a funny story. I am planning to go back to school and I'm thinking of going for degrees in English and Japanese so I can translate, or teach either. Also, to improve my own writing. Right now I have a Japanese 202 level of schooling, but I'm rusty (working on it though)...


Anyway when I started out taking Japanese lessons, I was also the member of an anime club called Baka (Banzai Anime Klub of Alberta), so my sensei asked me on a one on one oral exam:

昨日何をしましたが。 Kinou nani o shimashitaka? -What did you do yesterday.

バカに行きましたか。 Baka ni ikimashita　　－I went to Baka.

After a beat we both started laughing throughout the rest of the examination, it was hard to get it finished.

I was working on a bizarre (okay, admittedly, ALL my stories are bizarre) fanfic and asked her for some help. She should have known better, but agreed:

"Sumimasen. Bukkake o tanomimasen deshita." Or, "Excuse me, I did not order the bukkake."

And:

"Konnichiwa. Watashi no hobaakurafuto wa unagi ga ippai desu." "Hello. My hovercraft is full of eels."

TOLD you it was bizarre...
