Gotta say this is not one of Mephisto's finer moments.

I mean, this is exactly the same way Thanos fucked up during the first Infinity Gauntlet saga: He projected his consciousness out of his body after defeating Eternity, and then Nebula jacked the Gauntlet. I mean, for fucks sake you were THERE Mephisto, you saw this go down. Are you so bereft of creativity this was the best idea you could come up with? Are you so dense that you thought Thanos would fall for the same trick twice?

This is part of the prelude to Infinity Gauntlet, so that hasn't happened yet. It sort of backs up the idea that when Thanos does lose this way it's on purpose.

I always have trouble judging the time frame of these things. The title "The boys are back" implies that this is them getting back together after Infinity Gauntlet.

I think just reffering to them as oft seen antagonists of the Surfer. Dunno if they ever "teamed up," before this though.

Judging by the cover, one'd almost expect a Thanos/Mephisto slashfic going in.
... and I'm not entirely sure that it isn't, really.

Mephisto does kinda become the Starscream to Thanos' Megatron from here until the end of IG... then he tries to kill Thanos with a cosmic cube at the end of Infinity Crusade.

So yeah... you know, I could see it.

The cover photo of Thanos and Mephisto look like they’re about to drop the hardest mixtape in the universe.

When I see this artwork, I'm reminded of the smallness of the MCU's scale. The infinity gems at work is a visual wonder in the comics; in the movies they're used with such lack of imagination, as nothing but power beams. The most expensive CGI in the world still can't beat a pencil.
