Glad that Spencer is doing his bit to rectify it but the ‘Shed’ arc was such a nasty piece of work I’m surprised Marvel let it pass. Also puzzling that Zeb Wells was the one who did it given some of his other work.
Wells does comedy really well (see his Peter Parker fill-ins during the Jenkins era) but he's among the worst Spider-Man writers when it comes to serious stories.
I remember the discussions I had when Shed came out. People who kept insisting that it was totally a great development for Lizard, and that it opened the way for so, so many new stories that couldn't be told before, and now that Lizard had eaten his own son and lost his human consciousness, surely he would appear in a ton of stories as the main threat and be more interesting and popular than ever!
I still have a scar on my forehead from all the facepalming.
His son and wife got reanimated thanks to the Dead No More storyline. He turned them into lizard folk so they wouldn't decompose with the rest of the clones.
Yes and no. Every once in a while Marvel plays with numbering for storylines... but this is still something new, where we're getting these "extra" issues which tie into the main storyline. Why they didn't just number them normally and run the series biweekly for the duration, I dunno. How many people reading Amazing Spider-Man for the Hunted story were going to randomly skip these character-centric issues?
Some people would complain that they're suddenly paying double each month for their Amazing Spider-Man comics. Yes, they're getting twice as many pages, but that doesn't change that they had a specific planned budget.
This way, they're telling those readers they don't have to buy the extra issues, that they're optional extras.
