Basically she got the infinity gauntlet, and did her version of Thanos' "Remove half the population of the universe:. But instead of killing half the universe, she fused half the population with the other half.

Given Jean's (or more accurately, the Phoenix's) long association with fire, it... kinda makes a little sense.

(Deep down in the back of Logan's mind, he knows there was the potential to have a merged version of Scott and Jean, and is furious that this didn't happen.
All his romantic problems / fantasies would've been solved forever...)
