Sakura Wars chapter 12 - The full cast together at last.

Finally we meet all the cast members of Sakura Taisen in the manga...





Well okay the entire team from the first game, anyway.

There's been some new story news on the game: https://www.famitsu.com/news/201907/04179058.html (haven't found an English translation yet, but Google translate is mostly coherent if you use it), so it's time for another manga post, and time for Kanna to show up.










They find a tall, muscular woman chowing down in the cafeteria.









So the manga definitely amps Sumire's antagonism here a little bit, in the game she doesn't have this much interaction of the bat with Kanna but the line reading on her reaction to seeing Kanna... well that isn't annoyance in her voice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NSE8e9Vr9Y#t=9m50s

Also the joke about being a Pirate King is a joke on Kanna having the same voice as Luffy from One Piece (which also shares it's composer with Sakura Wars). Something they also touched on in their "New Treasure Island," live show.

Kanna, and Oogami spar for a bit, then Kanna heads to Maria's room to chat with her. Though I'm mostly team KanSumi (and MariSaku), and think it's best supported by the text, Maria and Kanna is a pretty big ship in the fandom.

I adore Kanna, and it's utterly hilarious that the tallest member of the team is voiced by the shortest VA...who in the stage shows played it for all it was worth.

Yep, and by contrast Kumiko Nihishihara who plays Iris is the tallest, and at least once got a piggy back ride from Kanna on stage. I think one of my favourite moments is when Kanna beats up a thug, "Now how tall am I?" "Your two meters tall!""Right!"

The casting was likely fully intentional since Ohji Hiroi looked for actors with stage presence, Ai Orikasa, Ayame's actress, actually got her start on the stage. And Hroi in fact pioneered the "2.5D" concept of anime actors performing themselves on stage. He recently said it's gotten too mainstream and people are going to lose interest; I think he's just being a hipster.

Kanna and Sumire do have a fun chemistry. I like that scene you posted some time back, where the two begin to bond for the first time.
