Lazy ass writer. Gonna kill everyone off, insinuate people might come back and then leave it to someone else

Or maybe it's all part of a plan, and the resurrections are already planned.

The only “plan” to any of this I’ll believe is that it was deliberately designed to be awful to build up excitement for Hickman and make whatever he does seem amazing.

Move over, Chuck Austen. There’s a new Worst. Run. Ever.

Agreed.
I never thought I could dislike an X-Run more than Chuck Austen, but this... this wins the cake.

I have been thinking about that plenty for a while now.

Let's assume that is indeed planned. that the resurrections are already planned and they might be coming back 1-5 years from now.
that these deaths were never meant to stick any more than "The Death of Superman" was meant to last.

So what? that doesn't change that these deaths feel meaningless and existing only to be shocking and mean-spirited nor does it change the problems within the series.
And even if they are planned? it is still left to a different writer to find the Hows and Whys.

I mean, if it is planned, then I imagine the method of resurrection is presumably planned as well, at least in broad strokes.

Lazy, or savvy?

Let's face it, whether he planned on bringing anyone back or not, someone down the line is going to regardless.

There were possibly eight pointless deaths this issue. And-- villains brought back to life only to be killed off. Meh... Sinister is still alive. SEND IN THE CLONES!!!!!

I've found another thing I dislike about this: It doesn't respect the characters power levels.

So.
Fuck this shit.
Fuck this shit so hard.
Fuck everyone who thought that this story was a good idea or worth doing.

This storyline was a miserable, pointless, senseless waste of good characters. A never-ending, tedious, bleak, godawful piece of snuff porn that should never have been allowed to exist in anything other than bad fanfic.

With every death, every massacre, every slaughter, this storyline gutted the franchise and my love of the X-Men. The suicide. The fridging. The random executions. All of it. And for what? Abso-fucking-lutely nothing.

We had characters come back from the dead only to die again in new and horrible ways. Characters who acted out of character. Who appeared for no reason. Who were tortured and maimed and traumatized and broken and cast aside so hard that nothing short of the Hickman reboot--assuming it's even a true reboot--can ever hope to fix this.

This was sloppy, lazy, poorly-constructed. The pacing was all off. The dialogue was clunky. And it didn't show a damn bit of respect to the characters, the franchise, or the fans.

Rosenberg brought Madrox back from the dead in his mini-series, and we were happy because we'd gotten back at least -a- version of Madrox after the last time he was pointlessly killed... only to murder him again at the end of this series. WHY?

Rosenberg brought back Warlock, made him sick, had him infect the "New Mutants" and when that plotline was brought back, they were summarily cured offscreen, and Warlock merged with a Madrox only to... die for no reason here. (Memory wiped, or actually dead, who knows. Probably dead because fuck this shit.)

And then, of course, he murdered or depowered or broke the ones that were left.
And WHY THE FUCK was Dani in both worlds? "Somehow," is the answer.
"Somehow."
No explanation.

Blindfold.
Loa.
Chamber.
Rahne.
Magik.
Warlock.
Sunspot.
Velocidad.
Madrox. So many Madrox.
Dark Beast.
The Reavers.
The Nasty Boys.
Juggernaut.
Havok.
Fabian Cortez.
The rest of the Upstarts.
Joseph.
Guido.
Vanisher.
Triage.
Banshee.

So many characters in such a short time, I couldn't even recall them without consulting a list someone kept.

This storyline actively infuriated me as a lifelong reader and fan of the X-Men, and if I could disavow it altogether, scrub it from existence, burn it with Phoenix fire, I would. This is the festering shitstain of a storyline which will forever mark the lowest point of the franchise. This made Chuck Austin look like Shakespeare. This made Ultimatum look cheerful, and Heroes in Crisis good by comparison.

This is the storyline that taught me despair.
I can only hope that Hickman has carte blanche to bring back anyone he likes, without explanation or rationale more complicated than "A wizard did it." Because I'll take anything.

Well, I'll give it this: Jean making a beeline for Scott and making out with him literally right in front of Logan and Emma made me laugh heartily.

EMMA: *sigh* I wish that was me kissing Cyclops.

LOGAN: Me too.

EMMA: [raises a perfectly manicured eyebrow]

LOGAN: Not like that. As in I wish I was him, kissing Jean.

EMMA:

LOGAN: I don't want to kiss Scott!

EMMA: Don't lie to a telepath, dear.

This was how I felt when Yost/Kyle turned New X-Men/Academy X into kiddie snuff porn post-House of M. Which is what made me stop reading comics altogether.

I know how you feel. You have my sympathies.

I've avoided this run based on the continual scans I see here making it look as awful as it apparently is. I don't know why I'm asking but:

1. This Scott, do he and Logan no longer have any animosity from Schism and forward? They seem OK together here.

2. So, like, Scott and Emma are just totally NOT, now? I mean, I was surprised at the pairing when it happened, but Emma went pretty hardcore in IvX when Scott died and here she's just, '...darn.' Does this Scott not remember/love her?

3. What happened to his eye (making him a literal Cyclops feels a bit...on the nose)?

Hope wants to snipe some anti-mutant hatemonger.
Cyclops wants to stop her.
So she points her gun at Cyclops, threatening to shoot him.
Both of them argue.
Comes Wolverine, who goes full "sneak attack bitch" and claws Hope.
The surprise makes her pull the trigger, shooting Cyclops in the eye.
Wolverine then tries to kill Hope for what she did to Cyclops.

ok, so, everyone else seems to have shared their opinion, I guess I will too...
Things I liked:
Cyclops putting out the call and Wolverine coming to the rescue when 3 armies of bad guys show up. yeah it is cheesy as hell, but it is a trope I love every goddamn time.
Cyclops putting together a hit list, and crossing names off the list. About goddamn time you decided that the "well, maybe our enemies can come around to our way of thinking" isn't working and that some of those mad dogs need to be shot in the street.
"Who is Emma Frost?" I have to admit I laughed at that.
Illyana being Illyana. 2nd favorite X-men after Kitty. (Kitty is going to be a pirate now? but that is the natural opposite of the ninja, how will that work?)
Emma deciding to make everyone forget Mutants. well, it is a solution to the problem that hasn't been tried before.
the cover with the close up of Emma wearing Scott's visor

Things I didn't like.
needless deaths.
the anti-mutant vaccine killing kids. it should kill the parents, not the kids, the kids haven't done anything to be assholes who need to die, yet.

I need to digress for a bit, but I have a point to it I swear.
There was an episode of CSI, where the murder of the week was an HIV positive porn star. The investigation revealed that because she had tested positive, she was out of the business, and really hard up for money, so she ended up having to go do a shoot with some REALLY sketchy producers in the industry. These guys decided, "hey, she is dying anyway, let's make her the subject of a snuff film." So she thinks she is going in for a fairly standard porn shoot, only instead they rape and murder her on film. (bad guys go to jail, and oh yeah, it ended up that when they killed her, her blood splattered, got in their eyes, and now they have AIDS, so happy ending, sorta)

I feel like the PTB at Marvel were like, "well, this line is dying anyway, and getting hit with the reboot button, so..." with the same logic as the snuff film guys in the CSI episode.
