Even the comics that are just about superheroes and their world - for instance, a comic about retconning something - even if it's not on the surface about anything but the retcon, is probably subconsciously about childhood. "Everything you know is wrong" isn't just about cool continuity tricks, it's also a stage we go through, or avoid going through, to come out of childhood and what we think we know and into wider knowledge of what we don't know. -- Al Ewing

Huh. So Devil Hulk cares about the other Hulks in addition to Bruce. Neat.

Well, they are also part of Bruce.

(Wondering if that's a mirror of what the Ones Above and Below All said with "they are themselves, but also me.")

Doubt that, he already talked about how he destroyed Hydra Hulk. I think the only other Hulk he's protective of is the childlike Savage Hulk.

He also doesn't seem to like Joe.

It tracks; Devil Hulk is really 'Dad Hulk'. He cares about the childlike 'Big Guy' the same way he cares about Bruce. His mission statement is to protect them. Joe Fixit is like his delinquent brother-in-law. He doesn't hate him, but he doesn't approve of his actions or behavior (especially how he treats Bruce). The other Hulks, even less so.

Plus Devil Hulk and the Big Guy were probably created around the same time in Bruce's head.

I'm getting thematic echoes of Planet Hulk- Sakaarson or Worldbreaker?

I believe Joe Fixit mentioned Green Scar. so chances are he might be showing up.

I would love to see what the horror movie take on Green scar would be.

Given that Green Scar is basically unstoppable rightful fury, I can't think of anything specific. Maybe the original Godzilla, but that would be stretching it.

Hulk was the Godzilla analogue in the Marvel Mangaverse, so who knows?

That's Mister Immortal on the rock there at the end of all things.

We are almost certainly going to get a scene between Bruce and Mister Immortal at the end of all things.

I can't wait.

This is the kind of little thing that makes Ewing my favorite writer.
For him, every story, every series can be relevant, not just the events and flagship titles.

The delinquent=Rick, The Quack=Samson, Sisters Idiot Daughter=Jen, the copycat=?, The Old Goat=?

From: [personal profile] scorntx
Going by process of elimination (and what happens later on in the issue), the "old goat" is General Ross.

(Brian's probably just jealous of his mustache.)

Given what's occurred in the series, the copycat would have to be Blonsky (The Abomination).

The copycat can't be Cho - he's never died. Funny that he didn't mention the Leader; he's died at least once, and come back.

You sure? Because we're talking about the kid that called himself "The Totally Awesome Hulk". And this series counts the first time Bruce was hit the gamma bomb as one of Bruce's deaths.

And Brian mainly mentioned those in Banner's supporting cast.

And? Again, this series counts the first time Banner was hit by the Gamma Bomb as one of his deaths and the time the Hulk was encased in stone, which wasn't treated as a death at the time.

And there were a few times where Cho seemingly died only to turn out ok, maybe he really did die.

In the mainstream continuity, she died fighting Thanos in Infinity Gauntlet #4 and was one of the East Coast Avengers during the Legion of the Unliving story in the 1986 annuals, where every member of both teams died (and everyone but Hawkeye and Cap proceeded to die again).

While not "dead" I also imagine her coma might have been enough for a visit, too.

It's in the context of other gamma-infused people who've visited the Under-Hell; Brian would've never met Amadeus if he's never died and gone there.

Rebecca Banner was never Gamma-infused and she still shows up in the below place. And like i said before, there were a few times where Cho seemingly died, but then turned out to be fine. It could be that those times actually were deaths. Just like they are counting the the time Hulk was encased in stone.

This seems to be leaning into the "radiation is magic" of most of Marvel's Silver Age origins. "What if gamma radiation really IS magic?"

That gamma causes a transformation reflective of a person's mental issues, has actually been a thing for some time now. This series seems more intent on exploring it

So, no mention of Samuel Sterns/the Leader here. What would Brian call him? "The Janitor"? "The Megalomaniac"? "The Leader"? I wonder Brian respects the Leader or holds him in even more contempt.

Samuel Sterns gamma-powered subconscious desire was to be smart as his brother Philip. Who was a physicist at the same facility where Samuel worked. And later became a super-villain called the Madman. Because comics.
