... And there it is. I suppose even positive books like this can't escape an occasional dose of tragedy. It's kind of weird how both Spidey and Kamala's books ended up having the same type of reveal simultaniously.

I made this joke on Tumblr but...

*Later*

Peter: Hey Kamala, welcome back from space. Nice costume.

Kamala: Thanks. I really like it.

Peter: Where did you get it.

Kamala: Well its the darndest thing, this alien goo slopped all over me and turned into this costume and hey where are you going?

Peter: To call Reed. And to get a flamethrower because I AM NOT DEALING WITH THIS SHIT AGAIN.

Kamala: WHEN YOU'RE TALKING TO REED ASK HIM IF HE CAN HELP WITH MY DADS INCURABLE DISEASE. Man, what's got him so worked up.

Venom: No idea. Nice costume by the way.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG

I try not to get too nitpicky about stuff like this, but isn't Kamala the kind of fan who would definitely already know Venom's origin story?

I'm hoping the costume thing goes in another direction, though, because (1) we've already got all the Venom/symbiote stuff we can handle and (2) it'd be a liiiiittle over the creepy line for the young, sexually innocent Kamala to have an enemy made of sentient goo that is the antithesis of personal space.

Well I mean, I don't really know how much of Peter's history is common knowledge to the general public. I get the impression that outside of his peers Peter doesn't exactly talk about his past. Plu Kamala is a fangirl but that doesn't make her omniscient, she's not Gwenpool.

In any case, I'm pretty sure in this instance its a coincidence, it doesn't really look or act like a symbiote, and we know that its nanomachines, I mean I wouldn't put it past them to do a "the suit is alive" story but I don't think that's the case here.

Yeah, that's fair. It's pretty obvious that Venom has an obsession with Spider-Man just from looking at his sartorial history, but that doesn't mean his origin is widely known.

Thank god it is not Cancer.
Last thing I want is for a million "lol, does T'Challa not answer his phone?" posts as if they were clever.

But whatever it is, they should check with T'Challa just in case though. :p

Is that the one where you have a little cough for months, before clutching your chest and dropping dead suddenly with a little bloodied drool with no warning?

Sometimes, yes. One of the reasons it is so hard to treat is that it does not seem to actually have any symptoms or affect the patient in any specific way, only a vague sense of being "ill" followed by a lethal case of being dead.

If TV and film have taught me anything, that's that cancer, brainwashing, car crashes, bullet wounds, scratches, bites, drowning, stab wounds, amputation, asphyxiation, seizures, decapitation, the cold vacuum of space, pretty much anything can be treated with some alcohol, a bandage or two and good old CPR.

Yeah, I mean, all of those are "only a flesh wound".

So much I hate about this.

You'll think the massive superhero fangirl would know better than to take the costume made of red flags.

Kamala seems to subscribe to the Peter Parker school of guilt so looks like she'll be having a couple aliens' deaths weighing on her.

I was hoping the series would more forward with reluctantly supportive parents along the lines of the Post Infinite Crisis Blue Beetle series. I don't like it when adults are oblivious to their kids being superheroes and I like it even less when progress is undone with a mind-wipe or some convoluted retcon involving an actress or whatever*.

Speaking of BND idiocy... do we know this only effected the Khans or did they magic-away everyone's memories of Ms. Marvel's secret ID?

And obviously it was nice having a superhero with two living parents. Fun while it lasted.

*(I have STRONG opinions about how May Parker should be written)

At least it was an unassociated idiot doing the mindwiping, not the hero. That said, still, WHAT?!

Yea like - you magically did a mind wipe no one asked for. And left the disease. Worst. Magician. Ever.

Like, it'd be ONE thing if the parents were having a really hard time coping with the constant peril of Kamala's life as a superhero, like they were a couple of issues ago, but they had just gotten around to accepting it and now she's gonna have to decide whether to tell them again, now with the added complication of her father's plot-cancer. Would telling him be the right thing or the wrong thing? Would it hasten his death? Should she risk that rather than spend his last days on earth lying to him?

That's a pretty solid dilemma, even if it was a bit of a strange path to get here. But hey, alien cultures' priorities ain't gonna be ours.
