It's every bit as good as the hype suggests. Better even. Frontrunner for book of the year by my count. -- Matthew Rosenberg

It’s fantastic. And built to survive a Category 5 hype storm. It’s even better than you hoped. -- Gerry Duggan

The ideas it presents are thought provoking, unique, forward thinking and set the stage for a new X-Men era. From a storytelling perspective I am jealous and in awe of Jonathan Hickman and Pepe Larraz’ use of the comics language. A seriously brilliant debut. -- Lonnie Nadler

The stuff that makes me nervous about House of X is also what I like about it - It takes risks and does weird stuff. It's hard not to fall into patterns with long-running characters. Innovation requires risk. Jon's taking risks. -- Jim Zub

Brilliant, challenging, thoughtful, progressive and NEW. It pushes the mutantkind in a brand new direction. As a fan, I'm more excited than ever. As a creator, I'm in awe of it. -- Zac Thompson

Wow. Hickman's books read like he went into the woods for weeks and charted out a perfect lifetime for a world filled with ideas and emotions. -- Chip Zdarsky

The stuff [Hickman] has planned for X-Men, it really shakes things up. The first time he told it to me, I was upset. I was like, we can't do that. We can't do that. The more I thought about it, the more I went, wait, hang on, what if we did? -- X-Men Senior Editor Jordan D. White

Well, I know what amnesty is. It's a limited forgiveness of past crimes, not free reign to commit future crimes.

Is the X-Men's position really that mutants are allowed to murder humans at will? If so, I'm with Orchis.

(But yes, I realize these are meant as indications that Something Is Wrong with creepy faceless Xavier)

I think he means Sanctuarty when he says Amnesty. Cyclops ain't a lawyer.

Amnesty in this context -- means they won't declare war or imprison the mutants for past crimes against humanity. Keep in mind that Cyclops, Jean, Sabertooth, Emma Frost, Xavier, Magneto, Magick, Wolverine, etc...have all been considered fugitives or dangerous. Amnesty means -- clean slate. And no, of course it doesn't mean they allowed to murder people at will. Seriously? Where does it say that?

I'm not sure they waged that war so much as the Avengers did...unless you are referring to Onslaught...or the Age of Apocalypse...which again, not sure that counts since it was "one" mutant who was responsible in both cases.

By the strictest definition of war, mutantkind would need to have been in armed conflict with another nation.

Which they were, in IvX.

Is Professor X not an omega-level mutant? Huh. And I thought that Apocalypse would surely qualify for that as well.

Apocalypse is augmented by Celestial tech so I could see where he would be left off.

Chuck's absence from the list doesn't bother me nearly as much as the Nates (Cable and X-Man)

The whole Omega thing still seems pretty arbitrary. Iceman is a GOD when he tries (which is almost never) but Magneto is all about expanding his powers through training and experimentation but he still occasionally runs up against a ceiling.

It seems weird that Jean's category is telepathy instead of telekinesis.

Agreed. Other than the weird power swap with Psylocke that one time, it's always been her primary power.

I thought so too at first, then upon reflection and re-reading the definition -- realized it's about "limitations". Jean is the only Telepath that doesn't require augmentation to go the distance. Xavier and Emma and Betsy all require augmentation of some sort. Jean doesn't and she can take down all three with little effort.

Telekinesis -- she's limited in. It's sort of like Emma's Diamond mutation. Secondary. The key is where are the limitations. And what requires augmentation -- in regards to Hickman's definition.

I can see it. Didn't she house the Professor's mind alongside hers while she was undoing some of the damage Cassandra Nova did to his body/brain.

Or something like that. It's been ages since I read the Morrison run.

so how many times have we seen this. A mutant homeland, a mutant sanctuary, etc? And how has it always ended? I give it less than 10 issues before their "unassailable refuge" is assailed and turned into burning rubble.

It's funny. I so so disliked House of X #1, but I just read Powers of X #1 and I loved it. I don't know why. But it was really good.

Also, anyone know who Bain is? Its a mutant having something to with Rasputin, but I don't know the name (presumably a surname) Bain.

Bain is Gunther Bain aka Angelo Unuscione aka Unus the Untouchable. That's were Rasputin gets her force field from.

Little disappointed there aren’t any hype comments from female comics talent, but Marvel has always been a bit of an insular boys club.
