I wonder how Kamala is gonna react.

Date: 2019-08-22 03:58 am (UTC)Just give the character enough room so some good writer can come in and write a good story with her without the editorial board standing over their shoulder.
THIS is probably not going to be that story..... I would love it if it were BUT the superhero goes villain route is sort of a trope now and writers often mess it up.

Date: 2019-08-22 05:34 am (UTC)And they're not going to "give her a break" after a successful film. And speaking of, she's been pretty popular after that film. Only the gaters have issue with her now.
And are you implying Kelly Thompson isn't a good writer? Because her current run has been good. Though going by your reaction, i guess you haven't read it since it doesn't seem like you know what's going on in the book. In which case, why do you care?
And again, this is a promo for a new arc not a new number one. Not sure why them promoting a future arc bothers you.

Date: 2019-08-22 03:49 pm (UTC)"And they're not going to "give her a break" after a successful film. And speaking of, she's been pretty popular after that film." - They don't have to keep a book going if they want to reset a character (that seems to be what they are trying to do with this new arc). I am not sure how you measure popularity. It doesn't do any good to compare subjective anecdotes. I tend to look at comic book sales like I mentioned above.
I have no opinion of the current book or writer. Just this promo.
It is not the promotion of the arc that bothers me but the content of that arc.

Date: 2019-08-27 12:47 am (UTC)"It is not the promotion of the arc that bothers me but the content of that arc." But you're not reading the book and thus don't know the content of the arc. So how can it bother you? You also don't know the context.
And if you're complaining about the arc, which we don't know the full context of yet, it seems like you do have an opinion on the writer and current book. It sounds like you don't have any faith in the current creative team, even they built up a good story so far.
And it's still weird how you go on about her alleged lack of popularity after a successful film. She clearly does has fans. And let's remember that all that was posted here is a cover, solicitation and concept art of "Dark Captain Marvel". Very little to go on and not much context. So it's premature for you to jump to conclusions. Especially since as they are building towards this arc, the creative team has given us no reason not to trust them.
And with respect, when someone doesn't care about a book or character they ignore any promotion of that book or character. It's not hard. I could understand if this was a relaunch, but again that isn't what this is. This is just a new arc.

Date: 2019-08-27 07:18 pm (UTC)"and thus don't know the content of the arc" - You may be confused here. My comments are about the promo art and the promo art is part of the content for the next arc, correct?
This series is the one that was just restarted in 2019. right? I don't think there have been even 10 issues of it yet and they are already planning a major character change? Why not do that at the beginning of the series? Based on the article above this change is happening at issue #12 so not even a year will have gone by since the series started.
Again, I admit I have not read any of this series, but in my long years of comic book reading these signs almost never bode well for a series.
That is why I suggested they give Captain Marvel a break. It seems like they are changing plans with her so much that they don't know what they are doing.

Date: 2019-08-27 10:34 pm (UTC)The "Why not do that at the beginning of the series?" shows that you haven't read the current series, it's not coming out of nowhere. They are building towards that, but you wouldn't know since you yourself admitted you don't know what's going on in the book. The current book is only three issues away from issue 12 book.
So with respect, your suggestion doesn't mean much since you aren't up to date with what they are doing. And you don't even seem to like Carol, so why do you care? I truly don't understand why a promo for an arc of a book you aren't reading bothers you so. Just ignore it, like you have been ignoring the book.

Date: 2019-08-28 03:32 am (UTC)Do you actually like this promo art and think this is a good direction for the series?
If history is any indicator they probably are going to cut this book sometime next year. From the outside looking in, this promo art seems like a desperate attempt to get attention for this series.

Date: 2019-08-28 12:20 pm (UTC)That's just typical renumbering. It's all over the industry, even titans like Batman and Spider-Man do it.

Date: 2019-08-28 02:46 pm (UTC)The relaunch earlier this year was for real though and now that they are jumping into this "turning super-villain" arc makes it seem like they are just throwing things at the wall.

Date: 2019-08-29 07:54 am (UTC)And what a like is the current storyline which is leading to this arc. But as you mad it clear, you aren't reading the book and have no informed opinion on the context. So yeah, based on the current story, which you aren't reading, i do like the direction of the book.
It's ridiculous to go about complaining about a book you don't read. You have no idea what's going on, and yet you think you know where it's going.
Which means there's no point in continuing this discussion. If you want to continue on your own, that's your prerogative. But there's nothing to be bothered about if you know the context.
