"By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain"

This week's episode of Creepshow will feature an adaptation of Joe Hill's 'By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain'. You can see a brief clip here; to my disappointment it appears to be a rather loose adaptation with the two kids aged up to teenagers and the story being more horror-oriented.
Interestingly enough the screenwriter for the episode is Jason Ciaramella who also did the following comic adaptation.
If you're not familiar with Ray Bradbury's stories, this was inspired by "The Foghorn" which was about the sound of a foghorn attracting a sea monster, the last of its kind, into thinking that it was the mating call of a fellow creature.
The story opens in the present with Gail, an old woman, overlooking a window by the lake. We flash back to 1943 where she is still a child.
Outside on the beach, she sees her friend Joel who tells her he has found a squishy rock to jump off of.

The "HWAAA" is the sound of a foghorn.
Thinking that they've discovered a dead dinosaur, Joel announces that they'll be rich. Gail wants to tell an adult, but Joel says they need to find a way to make it theirs.

Back in the present, Gail remarks that there was no sign of what happened and the adults each had different explanations for what happened.
"I didn't care what they said. The only thing that mattered was that Joel was gone. Gone and never coming back.
"I've been looking at the lake my whole life, searching, wanting to hear it again, that soft foghorn sound. And sometimes I do, but it's inside me. Deep down inside me..."
