I mentioned a few weeks ago that [profile] mnftiubot was bringing back dialogue from seminal early 21st century webcomic My New Fighting Technique is Unstoppable (Not to be confused with My New Filing Technique is Unstoppable, by the same author)

Based on the news this morning that america are resolutely in the business of foreign aggression and dropping bombs without starting wars, I wanted to revisit the first few strips of Get Your War On.
et Your War On is a series of satirical comic strips by David Rees about political topics. Initially, the comic concerned the effects of the September 11 attacks on New York City, but it quickly switched its focus to more recent topics, in particular the War on Terror. The series achieved a cult following on the Internet through discussion forums and blogs, very soon after debuting on October 9, 2001.

I wasn't Online when these originally went up, but these are interesting to see. I can vaguely remember this sort of skepticism amid the horrifying jingoistic nightmare which would soon take hold. I just really wish it weren't so pertinent.

Or pessimistic nihilism, ala Sout Park-ian tone, as a "moderate" move...by doing absolutely nothing and letting bad people win.
I mean I thought that Team America was nuanced...except rewatching it with Matt and Trey's political leanings along with their willful ignorance made me think about its message otherwise. I mean sure, Team America was portrayed as gun-totting idiots who did more damage than good, but Film Actors Guild's pacifism being portrayed as egotistical dupes along with Team America not getting to learn about humility and the movie--by extension, the creators--portraying them like "gung-ho good guys needing to learn how to control their excesses, therefore gung-ho is good" during the Iraq War--not to mention that their "sane man" being pro-military with his speech about private parts on why militarism is justified--that kinda made their message looks like pro-Iraq War by comparison.
Also the "D vs. T" from their episode, which many meme posters forgot about it being Matt and Trey's dislike of both Kerry and Bush that further made their views look less legitimate.
Let's not forget that American public by that time had 90's jingoism (Thanks to Somalia, Yugoslavia, and Kuwait; something to remind about the need of "World Police" right after end of Cold War), Saddam as go-to-villains in any pop culture, and conservative-leaning Baby Boomers (There are Gen-X, but they're less numerous and their politics are "diverse"...even if it include viewing Al Gore being as same as George W Bush because "anti-two party" without realizing the consequences) didn't help with your gripes.

I still have a t-shirt off that second strip. It's falling apart, but I can't part with it yet. (It's just a nightshirt at this point.) Scary how relevant it still is. Thanks for sharing.
