So we'll set aside whether the dragon adds value to the city of Omelas here, cause that is a side issue which is just being used as a distraction. I think the razing is the important part, I wouldn't set an animal which was razing coasts loose. Plus they now have an excuse to punch Namor in the face if they keep it. Actually, scratch everything that came before an excuse for trying to punch Namor, because any excuse for that is a good excuse.
I can't quite put my finger on what about it doesn't work for me. I think maybe it's the combination of the inking and the color? Normally I'm all about simple colors, but there's some subtle gradients going on here that I don't like and the linework is too thin. It makes things look sort of sparse.
Quick note since I saw someone talking about something relate on Twitter: Isn't Silk the same age as Spider-Man? Like, nebulously "around 30"? A romantic entanglement between her and Amadeus Cho seems a little iffy, even if he's not a kid sidekick anymore.
Yeah, she's supposed to be the same age as Spider-Man (early 30s if you think about it and early 20s if you work for Marvel editorial) but she really doesn't come across that way.
Even if you take the whole "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" thing into account, she reads as too young in a lot of comics.
I'm not familiar with the character, so I don't know if this applies, but sometimes, when someone suffers a traumatic experience -- like being locked up for thirteen years -- they mentally freeze at the age they were when it happened. So Silk would still be, in her mind, about fifteen years old, no matter how old she was physically or chronologically.
I'm glad they will continue the story. I also enjoy the ideological conflict here, much more in depth and nuanced than usual hero versus hero conflict in Marvel.
I liked this mini a lot... but I’m also old school/ornery enough to feel irked that it’s not a complete story in and of itself. It’s just feeder for the next part.
Granted, the next part is the same story/creative team, but it seems like everything these days just feeds into something else. Nothing’s ever really “done.”
(And yes, I can think of a bunch of counter examples pretty quickly, it’s just what it feels like)
