Unlike Trump, Osborn actually has the competence and actually rose himself through poverty, or at least did better than his alcoholic father.
I know Cracked compared him to Trump, which ignoring the context of settings' completely moronic citizens who legitimately believed Skrulls or backing Iron Man's police brutality within the span of months.

Or entire similarities was due to Editors mandate (Changing Gwen Stacy being impregnated by Peter to Norman) or damage control (the "we made everyone on Registration side awful").

Yeah a lot of times when Trump is compared to villains like Kingpin or Osborn I'm usually offended on the behalf of the villain.

I get that doing things like briefly having a full-on Captain Planet villain (Scott Pruitt) run the EPA makes people want to compare Trump to Norman Osborn or Lex Luthor* or whatever super villain but it just doesn't work for me, Granted Trump and Osborn have made a career of stealing the work of others but I feel people just keep overlooking the obvious ...

...Trump is Biff from Back to the Future.

*That's way off base. Lex divested from his companies when he became President. Trump is literally more shady than a cartoon villain.

Well, in honesty, Lex being a President during Bush era might have to do with it.
I am pretty sure Luthor was supposed to be not!George Bush, complete with rigged election (at least sabotaging relief effort to make himself a "better" candidate) or invading Kandorian based on questionable evidence.

Oh, Lex was clearly a reaction to Bush* but recently I've seen people try to re-frame it in the context of Trump and it doesn't work.

*As was Civil War.

And Civil War didn't bode well with the recent controversy over police brutality.
Even ignoring "Iron Man killing an unarmed black man and getting away with it", the entire comparison to Registration--which sounds more like accountability law complete with training and insurance--as "slavery" irks me, especially the Cap side sounding less like Freedom Fighter and more like pro-police brutality group.

The politics of Civil War is a lot to unpack.

Broadly speaking, I'm okay with masked autonomous superheroes in fiction but find it to be a terrifying hypothetical IRL.

Still, any reasonable ethical debate goes out the window pretty quickly once the Pro-Reg side were made into full-on super villains.

Apparently Millar has said that he overdid it because he assumed the audience would side with Tony and he wanted to keep things balanced. Between that and Ultimate Captain America, I get the sense that he doesn't think very much of Americans.

If I was wearing skintight spandex how close in Osborn is standing there would make me kinda uncomfortable.

So was Spider-Man: Chapter One really as bad as I heard it was?

At best it was pretty mediocre and introduced a number of pointless changes that Marvel quickly ignored.
