Hannibal was the best show on NBC over the last 10 years -- always give the scene-eating cannibal a seat at the table. Especially if they can help you by doing things only they can do, even if in doing those things they might try and take a bite out of you. And why wouldn’t they? Mutants are delicious. Besides, what’s the thing that David Mamet always says? “Whenever possible, put the monster under the bed, not outside the window.” (That wasn’t Mamet. I made that whole Mamet bit up. I’m honestly not even sure if it’s an actual saying or not.) -- Jonathan Hickman

I hope Mystique gets to either resurrect her wife (glad they explicitly called them that), or enact some retribution if she doesn't.

This was the first X-Men comic I've picked up in years and now I'm curious about the rest of the story, but there's so many runs I don't even know where to start. Is there a handy guide somewhere with an order and summaries of the titles, to see which ones to read or something?

I don't know of any such guide.

This story is contained as X-Men is sort of an anthology series. Naturally it will have a consequential story playing out at some point throughout one or maybe more books.

I would recommend just starting with House of X/Powers of X. That's where this particularly story started.

I'll second that since Hickman retcons so much and rewrites so many characterizations and his info dump graphics will fill you in on his version of any back story you need.

If you like what he's doing then you'll be all set and if you don't like what he's doing it's pretty much ignore the whole line until the next change up.

i am very curious about this... why NOT resurrect her... I mean if this is about helping mutant kind, which is what Destiny wanted Moria to do... why not be like "SEE! I did what you told me!" because doing this to Raven (Destiny being the ONLY one who seemed to be able to reign her in)is ASKING for her to burn the whole thing down...

Oh there plenty of reasons to pick from spite, fear of a precog exposing her and forcing her to change her plans. Hickman needing things to happen a certain way so all the reasons to either off Mystique or bring destiny back to reign her in don't happen.

1. I think their entire plan is contingent on hope and taking a firm, preemptive stand against Humanity. Its why crazies like psychos like Apocalypse and Exodus are playing along; as far as they know this is the boldest direction mutantkind has ever gone in. If they knew via Destiny that this plan (like all mutant plans) most likely ends in failure, theyd go back to doing their own thing.

2. Destiny could possibly have knowledge on how and when to kill Moira and *poof* there goes this timeline and Moira might be gone for good too.

3. Mystique, even with Destiny, was kind of still a piece of shit so no way to guarantee her and destiny would remain loyal.

There's the "This entire thing is going to go down horribly and they can't have a precog telling them this"

Or, alternatively, they *want* Mystique to go apeshit for whatever reason.

I think they cut a deal with the Phalanx to create a mutant hive mind once their numbers grow enough and they don't want a precog warning everyone.

That's why they're hiding Warlock as Doug's arm and why Kitty (whose powers would ruin the plan) is being shut out.

Maybe Moira is holding a grudge?

Well, let's see... Raven and Mystique blew up her lab, then set her on fire just to make a point.
(Not counting that time Mystique blew up her other lab, tried to kill her and depowered her semi-adoptive daughter just for the heck of it. Because that's continuity.)

A grudge sounds like it'd be a given.

"I HATE YOU! I'VE ALWAYS HATED YOU!!!"

No, it's not the same coming from Mystique.

Still, SOMEONE needed to say it.

Maybe they have her mixed up with the movie version.

does that include the period of time when she was married to Charles?

Big fan of the Mystique stuff here, I can't want to see things hit the fan with her demanding Destiny's resurrection. Also, I'm very excited to see how the Nimrod stuff develops, I've always been fond of Nimrod, or at least Claremont's early take on the character before joining up with the Master Mold and going through the Siege Perilous.

I mean, is Morph still alive ? If Mystique can't be trusted Charles, then use any other mutant. I never understand why smart characters have to make dumb choices for the plot when they have options...

Changling the 616 less powerful version of Morph was in a crowd scene so he's probably been copied I mean resurrected.

There are also a few other shape shifters like Copy Cat they could reproduce to fill the void if they really need too.

Hell Apocalypse and Sinsiter are both far more powerful shape shifters than Mystique so either of them could easily be sent though you've got the same issue of trustworthy ness to deal with.
