It feels like they're trying to walk back an ultimately unfulfilling development (i.e. "Ric" Grayson) in time for his 80th anniversary, first by claiming that the memory alteration was in fact part of an EE-VUL PLAN, and now by having the Joker get involved.

I like the logic, if I'm reading this properly. "I can't fuck with Batman's family properly if they're not whole, so I need to "fix" Nightwing by restoring his real self before murdering him or whatever."

Works for me. Its right up there with the villain teaming up with the hero against someone else because "no one is allowed to kill you but ME".

Oh that's what they absolutely are doing.

Did it have to be Joker though?

Unfortunately, yes. The Batman family, oddly enough, only has one villain.* You'd think that after decades of publication Batman would have the most diverse rogue's gallery in comics, but no, it's just the Joker.

I mean we just had a multi-year Bane storyline but sure.

A Bane storyline where that turned out evil not-Batman was apparently pulling the strings the whole time, and Bane was pretty much a dumb puppet.

I know, but acknowledging that would ruin the joke about how overexposed the Joker is.

I get the frustration but Joker overexposure is nowhere near as bad as Norman Osborn being responsible for every single bad thing in Peter Parker's life in the late 90s and early 2000s.

This is the kind of comic you only feel anything about when your investment in a character is inertia.

I haven't been following recent Nightwing developments, and admittedly he's obviously had his head messed with.

But his calling Bruce "Wayne," feels deeply strange.
