I just got an email from Marvel saying they've successfully trademarked the following title: VULCAN AND HIS TRASHBAG MUTANT FRIENDS. -- Jonathan Hickman
This week, on X-Men: A sensitive exploration of the nature of death and resurrection, as Petra and Sway are revived and learn of what's happened in the world since their d- pfffft, yeah right. Actually, they're personality-less blobs. No character development here. Yes, now Petra and Sway can have the same experiences as the Gen-X kids, or the cast of New X-Men: Standing about in the background until some writer kills them to show how dangerous a new villain is.
Was kind of hoping after Hickman stopped writing New Mutants there wouldn't be any more of his interpretation of them. Naïve fool that I was.
(Back during Powers and House, it seemed irritating that he didn't write Moira speaking with her Claremontian accent, but seeing how he render's Rahne's accent... seems like maybe that was dodging a small clip's worth of bullets. ... ... okay, it's mainly the fact she says "tis" that's got me goat up. Feels like writers want to write Scottish people they should be tied up and made to watch Still Game until their eyes bleed.)
So if this is supposed to be Original Flavour Vulcan, doesn't that mean he's basically ditched Deathbird? Does he remember her? Does he care? (I mean, abandoning his wife for no good reason is a straight-up Summers move.)
Later in this issue the Summers family sit in a jet and before they can take off Gabriel wants Scott to say "I want the fire to be fire." And then Gabriel laughs. I don't get what's funny about the joke, but it seems to me Gabriel is a teenage kid at heart in an adult man's body if I remember his backstory right.
The Shi'ar aged Gabriel up so he'd be a more effective slave, and in "Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire" there's a scene where he hallucinates a younger version of himself pointing out that between the accelerated aging and the dead his age is a mess, but he should be somewhere in his teens.
So teenaged kid at heart might actually be an overestimation. Kid needs a shrink, not booze...
Wait, teens? Shouldn't Scott be on the downhill side of 30 by now? Meaning his pregnant mother's abduction by D'Ken and Vulcan's postmortem delivery would have been at least 20 years ago...
I think this means that Original Flavor Vulcan is still in the Rift, This is resurrected Vulcan, and since he didn't die... he might be stretched thin.
It is not even correct dialect for the Western Isles of Scotland, which is where Rahne is from and supposedly has an accent of. I wish Marvel would stop with the phonetic accent thing, it is insulting and offensive. Dialect is fine, if you can run it past someone who knows how to write in the correct dialect, but going with it just being a silly accent added for flavour is not okay.

And he did spend however long between Giant Sized X-Men and House of M being dead, so that's not helping.
