You think Vader ever gets tired of the universe yelling at him about how killing his wife was bad and sucks? Like, he's probably wasted millions of other people by now.
The Universe probably keeps yelling at him about how killing his wife was bad and sucks out of some sick sense of amusement from the irony that he started off doing his terrible deeds FOR his wife/kids.
You know, I get that it's a stressful situation and all, emotions running high, but there's no need to threaten the poor robot.
Also, considering the Empire, y'know, blowing up planets and enslaving a whole bunch of people, I really don't like stories that try to make us sad because Vader's wife died. Yeah, she died, but I think the mass murder kind of closes the book on any sort of sympathy I have for the guy.
As long as they don’t mitigate his actions I don’t see the problem. The Thor movies had Loki trying to commit mass genocide and Valkyrie enslaving people to be killed for entertainment and they ended up getting more of a pass in the narrative than Vader ever did.
I honestly feel if George Lucas had the chance he would rewrite or change Anakin's descent. At least not make Anakin murder the younglings or Padme. It was good for the moment , but too much for the story.
Not really, too many shows/movies and so on try to defang the villain too much. Like they did with Kylo Ren. When they tried to turn Luke into the bad guy, in order to come up with excuses for Kylo Ren. It ruined Kylo Ren as a character for me and made me lose any interest I might have ever had in the guy.
I love redemption stories, but they don't work by woobifying the bad guy, they work by making it clear the to be redeemed villain realized the error of their ways and having them try to make up for their crimes and do right by their victims.
I mean, personally I see it more as Vader thinking the universe revolves around him* and his pain over his dead wife being more valid than the misery he inflicts on others.
*Considering the main nine movies are "the Skywalker Saga", he's probably right.
Or maybe we ARE supposed to feel sorry for him. Star Wars is a pretty messed up place. Arguably the most popular character in the series is a drug runner, I could rant forever about Jedi idiocy, the Empire were space Nazis, and apparently the universe forgave Vader for countless atrocities just because he saved the life of his intended heir from someone he was planning to kill anyway.
I was about to complain that she had died at the start of Attack of the clones. but as it turns out, that was Cordé, a different character altogether... Holy crap does the Wookieepedia have a page for literally every character.
You know, I am really glad to see Sabe here. Self-promotion is everywhere in the comics, and for once I can see a, gasp, female character from the prequel era stories promoted.
Maybe? I mean I assumed the same thing about Doctor Aphra but she was supposed to be getting a second ongoing series this month until it got delayed because ... *gestures vaguely at the world*
Honestly the whole "these people are doomed" thing is a large part of why i couldn't get behind most of the Rogue One characters.
As for "Vader does too bad things to be sympathetic", watch Death Note (the 2007 anime adaptation, not any live action series), Code Geass (tv series only), or Gundam the Origin, a similar target adudience anime that follow men doing despisable things that said target audience is supposed to cheer on, with additional sprinkle of incest in Code Geass.
The difference though is that those men are falling off a slippery slope while trying to work towards the/a greater good.
Vader hasn't given a damn about the greater good since he put on the suit, and his only real sympathetic trait, his self loathing, he uses as fuel to hurt other innocent people.
He's a card carrying villain, who'll kill children just for an extra ounce of self hate/vague dark side power.
Ooof - Vader's blind spot here is hilarious. "If she was alive - she'd be with the Empire." Oh Honey...no...nope. That cruiser had sailed.
Though this does make me question and look at how "strong" was their relationship was. I mean I took it at badly written face value. But this...makes me wonder how lost up his ass Anakin was before everything went to hell.
Ehhh . I honestly take it as dark side talk. This is Vader who has been in the dark side for awhile and is making twisted logic to justify what he did on the surface.
