I wrote a rough outline and when the art came back Alan [Davis] had scripted most of it as well. I figured, who am I to rewrite this comic book legend? And we just went with it. -- Jonathan Hickman
As noted elsewhere, the X-Men first had to rebuild the Westchester mansion in its classic configuration, just so they could dramatically abandon it and let it get overgrown by Krakoan vines, since it's been a long time since the school has looked like this.
Also, those Sidri must have been there for a long time, and had to have survived multiple mansion explosions, relocations, and other such catastrophes.
Actually.... there's an entire issue of Damage Control about why they don't. :)
The Mansion was capable of self-repair and so didn't need Damage Control, much to their chagrin, though a certain almost mad scientist in DC's employ messing around with the Danger Room did no one any favours.
For this one I think Hickman straight up said in an interview that the Nightcrawler branding was entirely incidental, it had originally been written as a standard X-Men annual.
Though it IS a pity this isn't as Nightcrawler-centric as the title suggests, and Lord knows Kurt deserves that attention, it's hard for me to dislike a story that has Alan Davis drawing Kurt AND m'boys Doug and especially Warlock!
I seem to recall it going back to the little cape variant in some crowd scenes on Krakoa. Dunno really. I just find the new ones mostly totally forgettable, or just too busy.

On the bright side... Doug and Warlock.
