I mean forgive me but I was under the impression Moon Knight was like a Batman Level guy,. How the Heck did he just stop Mjolnir then fucking bury Thor in moons?
Yeah I mean, could he always do that with moons and he just didn't because it would potentially destroy the Earth? Is he like "Wow I've had this power for years and I've never had the opportunity to use it. I should go into space more often. Why DON'T I go into space more often? The other heroes never invite me on space missions. Why is that? Do they not like me? I like them, I just have trouble opening up to new people.... oops I think I killed Thor. Okay yeah no he's fine. I need to pay more attention and not disassociate when I'm controlling the moons."
I'm kind of reminded of Sailor Saturn, who is basically the Sailor Scouts Nuclear option since her attack can destroy a planet (and luckily that's what they need to destroy the villain of the Arc she's introduced, Pharaoh 90).
Also Lila Cheney, who can teleport, but only across vast intergalactic distances, so she can't even use her power safely without having a device to tell her where she's gonna land.
Still, I imagine Moon Knight would have been insanely useful any of the billions of times Earth was invaded by aliens.
Thanos: Soon this world will be cleansed in the name of lady Death and.... wait what is that sound? Is that the Katamari Damacy theme? *Looks* Is that the Earth's moon. Wait, that's no moon.... Oh wait it is the moon whats it doing coming this way OHGODNO.
Generally, Moon Knight is portrayed as a Batman/Daredevil level guy, but he is also shown as getting power-ups from the phases of the moon as the avatar of Khonshu. The inconsistency comes from whether writers decide if Moon Knight's supernatural origins are real or just part of his dissociative disorder. During one of his Fist of Khonshu phases back in the late 80s, he temporarily powered up like we see up above when he was in a pocket dimension with thousands of moons.
Aside from the "moon power", it appears that he's absorbing the power of each of the current day 1,000,000 B.C. Avengers he takes out, so he was already rocking the power of Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, and Ghost Rider when he took on Thor.
I mean, if you think of him as just a vessel being possessed/controlled by Khonshu... it's not completely implausible, though I don't like the idea of some long-beaked Egyptian god lecturing Thor about the true nature of a hammer created by Odin that he's also reforged himself on at least one occasion.
Normally, I'd cry "utter bullshit!" at the thought of Moon Knight being able to stand up to, and defeat, the characters he does here, but it's clear that he's being supercharged by Khonshu who's being supercharged by some sort of super-lunar event. So it's storytime handwavium bullshit, but then again, that's kinda Jason Aaron's wheelhouse.
So if that means sure, Full!Moon Knight can beat up Thor and telekinetically control Mjolnir... oh fine, let's go with it. Aaron also has a weirdly specific thing for his 1,000,000 BC Avengers and for playing mix-and-match with their power sets.
This is remarkably goofy, but I'm okay with it. I mean, what else do we have to look forward to at the moment? :)
You know, I would have guessed that Khonsu was the god of one moon in particular, rather than moons as a general concept, but Wikipedia does mention him of being a "God of light in the night," so I guess that tracks.
I do hope Moon Knight's planning to clean up those moons when he's done, and that he considerate enough not to grab any that inhabited worlds were depending on to stabilize their orbits/tides/rotations.
Sure, this is Jason Aaron's fun saturday morning cartoon avengers run, but I keep wondering what the point was of moon knight's 2014 reboot at all, given that no one outside wood did anything particularly useful with it.
